That as well. Though Comcast may not want 3 coaches on the payroll. AV 5 million, Torts 4 million, new guy ? - furio16
There is so much to be done to fix the organization to be competitive, the HC position is not that important right now. IMO. Hockey Ops structure must be addressed and then scouting dept. over hauled. Roster evaluation. Not pro-Torts, but more vital areas should be addressed first.
The Flyers issue was never a lack of effort. Although they've been trying to market effort as a product. Smart and informed fans will never buy that but that's not what the majority of Flyers fans are. Tortorella is basically just a high paid interim coach who has dummied down their style of play to try an compete. It's all he knows. It's not working and it won't work, even if they get more talent. Keeping in mind that my definition of working is becoming a true top team in the league. Not just a playoff team that can compete. - MJL

Mathieu Darche is director of hockey ops for tampa. Ive heard his name mentioned before. I wonder if he’d be a good candidate? - Hextall271
If they hire from outside at least you'd hope they'd pick off somebody from one of the best teams. Not like... go after the GM of the Minnesota Wild or something lol.
Yeah it’s almost like Elon’s dad doesn’t own a diamond mine or something
The twitter deal will go down as one of the worst purchases in history. Sure let him run this franchise. What could go wrong? - hereticpride
Elon Musk bought twitter because he could. When you have that much f you money normal rationale for buying an entity such as twitter goes out the window.

Yeah, I'm not getting my hopes up as the more things "change" in this organization, the more they stay the same. If there's one thing this organization is "good" at doing, it's ensuring that nepotism thrives in their development of the front office and player personnel. It's what they do. They don't develop players, instead they develop and create job opportunities for friends of the organization....
Do not not disagree. Just floating what they may not want to do.
To me you clean house. Coaching staffs at both levels. Torts isn't the future. Whenever he is fired, I would think a new coach will have a much different style of play he would want to employ. So start fresh. - furio16
I think a house cleaning is in order. Lhv and hockey ops. Keep gritty. Haha

Him or Stacey Roest would be good candidates IMO. I heard Tulsky's name thrown around on this forum today. I just want to point out Tulsky holds a B.A. in chemistry and physics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in chemistry from UC-Berkeley. Haven't we had enough of a Harvard graduate running this franchise. The Flyers don't need a metric geek, they need a real hockey person in charge. - jd250
You should apply. Cite your past playing and coaching experience. Bill will put in a good word for you.

Well. I’m not a genius but I’d suspect that Darche would know how Tampa was build and could chart a similar course.

But Clarke vouched for him! And I understand Bobby was something back when my Dad (who’s in his mid 60s)was in high school. We must stay the course!

True. The franchise hasn't quite become Arizona east yet. There's always hope!

I really do not care whether a GM candidate has a chemistry degree or has never finished high school as long as he/ she has full command of what they need to do and have competency in doing that.
Clarke, Homer, Hextall have been "real hockey persons"
Go for the qualifications not the pedigree.
It makes the most sense to get the talent and then see what happens with Torts and the systems. Torts has been very good for the goalies’ development, it has been far more predictable in front with less of the impossible saves. Younger players are improving. Torts has said multiple times that he would not be here to see it through.
Firing Fletcher is the first move in a change of direction…now we find out if it goes anywhere. Will they get the high end talent? Build a complete team that can contend? The coach isn’t the issue for me right now. Let’s see what gives next in the front office. - NC Flyers Fan
The improvement has been minimal at best. The facts bear that out. We have a track record with Tortorella and how he coaches. He is not changing. Veteran coaches don't change.
Your reply here with zero substance is an indicator of both the weakness of your position and the strength of my position. You couldn't possibly make a coherent and intelligent argument against. Just like you couldn't in the Frost conversation. So, all you can do is post rhetoric and Smilies.
You replied in the same manner when I told you about Fletcher in the past when you were saying he was putting the team on the path to the cup. We know how that has turned out. There is a track record here. I look forward to the day when you turn on Tortorella and act like you knew it all along.

I don’t know how this is gonna sound but I don’t put much stock into this because they’re time as players were different and along time ago but to Hextall’s credit, I do think he was trying to rebuild/retool the right way. He just took too long and made costly mistakes along the way.
With Danny Briere I am optimistic. He was a long time Flyer. He was a player when the game went from old to young and survived the 2005 lockout. If none of this means anything to anyone, I look at Joe Sakic’s success with the Colorado as GM. Steve Yzerman’s success with Tampa Bay. I look at the direction Chris Drury is taking the New York Rangers. Why not give a former player a shot? It seems to be a trend that is working.
