Maybe. Kane certainly looked like he was trying to catch him, but couldn't. Think that also has to do with the hip. But yeah, if Fox and Miller are going to continue to be below average, team is cooked.

The issue was that Kane then had to change direction and go after the guy that then had the puck. He definitely would have caught the original puck carrier. Kane's speed looks fine.

Was Kane ever known for high end/elite speed? He hesitated briefly, maybe mental maybe hip? Looked like a decent attempt for a guy that doesn't back check.

Wasn't questioning his effort. You are right about Fox making a terrible read, doing idk what . Like I said certainly looks like Kane trying recover after the turnover. Just couldn't. I don't know if that is age, injury or a combo of both.

All I'm saying is I'm not sure there are too many guys in the league/team that would have caught up on that play, especially with the Fox mistake. Maybe Kreider or Zib? If Fox doesn't make that bad read I don' think they score there. Just bad all around.

Anyway, they got 2 points. Need to burn the tape on that game.

He was fired up after that goal and gaffe. He’s very sneaky in the offensive zone, he’s good at getting free and open. Goals are going to come in bunches with him creating plays (once they get going), and they should outweigh any deficiencies in the dzone. He fumbled the puck there but he did look fast enough for me coming back, and Fox was definitely to blame a bit essentially taking himself out of the play. He also made a few plays along the boards that helped get the puck out.

There are gonna be ouchy moments with him, but the sky is limit offensively for him and Panarin. Look at me being positive again

Agreed!

For all thats being said, I'd rather Kane on the 2nd line than Vesey. Vesey on a clear 2 on 1 takes a slap shot right into the goalies stomach. Thankful to have other options. Vesey isn't scoring that goal on the PP.

The defensive issues are on the players to step up and pay how they are supposed to. Making a trade for another LD isn't going to fix the defensive issues. They know how to play. They need to execute their game.

Montreal looked faster than us, almost to a man. I don't attribute that to Kane's hip. Several of our players had trouble catching up to several Canadiens.

My biggest concerns are Shesty and Kakko. Granted Shesty came alive and won them an extra point probably, but game after game he’s letting in softies. He needs to be better, .908 save percentage is not nearly enough by his standards.

Kakko. Idk man. I’m trying to believe in him but it gets harder and harder. He was invisible last night and I think he’s the reason Chytil has struggled too. He isn’t getting Chytil the puck enough. Laf seems to have found his game more this year than Kakko has

Oh the game overall was bad. 5 on 5 Montreal was better. Again wasn't knocking the effort of 88. He's had worse than that as a Hawk the previous few years. Knocking the turnover sure, not trying to get back.

Kakko looked great for a long time. He even looked good when Chytil started to sputter. I think they have all hit a wall at 5v5.

It's literally one poor game for Kakko. How are we asking questions that should need weeks of consistently poor play before they are justified??
Oh Kaapo, my Kaapo!! I have faith. Kid is becoming a monster.

not just directed at you, but players slump, it happens. a month ago we were freaking out about laf and now we're not. just the normal ups and downs of a season. whole team has looked pretty meh for a bit outside a few players.

Oh my! Stop the presses!!!
Really, does that make you feel like he's regressed or headed for bust status??
The NHL is a grueling league. I've seen way more reason for optimism than pessimism this season, that's all I'm getting at.

I mean, the team has hit a rut. Many guy not playing well. Tough to win when that is the case.

I might be wrong but wasn’t the Vesey slap shop on the PK?

I don't think any trades would have fixed this either. This comes down to players and coaches.

I mean they traded for 3 players that are having downs years 5 on 5. Mikkola and Kane overall offensively and defensively. Tarasenko, defensively. It doesn't help.

I know, that's why I made sure to include the emoji. I'm just saying even at more than a one off, it's not alarming to me.

It was, quasi 2 on 1, glad he hit the net forcing a save and stoppage

They made a decision. We know one of the two big boys were coming. I wanted Lafferty and possible McCabe, we knew Gavrikov wasn’t happening. Orlov and Hathaway also would have been nice. But this is where they are and they need too find a way to make it work
