I looked at 35+ deals too and only found Goligoski, Giordano, MAF, and Suter to have deals that were exempt from the 35+ rules.
So it seems agents try to make sure the deal is structured in a way that makes the deal buyout proof to protect their aging asset.
So Geno, Letang, Carter, PEB, Perry, Ovi, M. Smith, and Crawford all had/have deals subject to those rules.
So only 4 out of the 12 deals have been exempt since the rule change by my count and interesting enough for you guys Billy G signed 2 of those. - Feds91Stammer
That's all a crazy find. Smart agents and dumb GMs. If they do retire though, they dont get paid for the remaining years, correct? Just the team gets a cap hit shaft?

Right the players wouldn't get paid if they retire. But they still get 2/3rds of the payout if bought out while the team still gets the full cap hit. Basically puts the ability to continue playing/play out the contract in the players hands.
So either these guys go on LTIR as their career ends or you pray you can dump them with a pick like Toronto did with Marleau for buyout purposes. |

hahaha fvck....while its entirely possible they are as poopty as Carter at 38 I still feel a bit different about those guys due to the long history and memories with them. - MattStrat
Yeah they should be in the teardown phase of the rebuild at that point so probably won't matter as much. |

Depending on how this season plays out, the teardown may begin next year. |

Of the front office sure but the top end of their roster is too competent to justify a teardown yet. |

If prime McDavid and Draisaitl can't win with crap depth and below average goaltending, what makes you think past their primes Sid and Geno can? |

Who said I think they can win? Just saying its hard to justify a teardown when your top 2 centers are still top 25 in the league in scoring. |

Pocklington had no issue with it.
Also, if you're not going to win, or be stuck in purgatory, might as well being the teardown early. Sid and Geno will still attract an audience. |

I wouldn't be so sure about that.
Attendance is already down an average of 2000 people since the 16/17 season. |

Hahaha. The scapegoatism thickens. Carter is now at fault for goals against whilst on the bench. The clown shoes are long around here. |

I don't see anything super conclusive on that but certain markets, usually those with poopty teams, have seen the biggest decrease.
Obviously there have been a lot of factors recently that would cause fans, especially thte casual ones, to not attend games. |

Its not Carter's fault the Pens played the best team in their own end in the league last night. |

They look like they're on a f'n mission, dont they? If they both stay healthy I think they have a good enough supporting case to get to the final. Goaltending is the most suspect thing for them IMO. |

I think construction around the Pens arena is really hindering their attendance as well. My bro said it’s a nightmare to get to the arena. They park out in Station Square and take the train back here lol. Tix in certain markets are way overpriced too. |
