Two things. One it was widely speculated, and this board was talking about Briere taking over for Fletcher for a long time. Well before two weeks ago. Secondly, why does playing the game automatically make someone a good GM? It's two completely different things. Mike Milbury played the game and he was an awful GM. - MJL
We've all been speculating about DB being the next GM since he was made special assistant to the GM over a year ago.
https://www.broadstreetho...al-manager-chuck-fletcher
With Fletcher on the hot seat after two straight disappointing seasons, it’s safe to wonder if this is the first step toward Brière becoming the GM. If Fletcher can’t turn things around soon it may be Brière steering the ship for the next era of Flyers hockey. |

We don't need to. I've already stated that even fully healthy, I don't believe that the Canes can beat Boston. The Canes aren't the best team in the east when fully healthy. If Svechnikov is out for the season, then they won't be at full strength and we won't know what might have happened. |

What good is having strong goaltending if the rest of the team isn't good enough? It wouldn't be a mistake. The Flyers have to add draft capital to get out of this. They've traded away too many picks. The only way to add draft capital is to trade for it at this point. - MJL
Yes, I agree trading for it is the only option they have. I just wouldn't trade Hart unless I absolutely had no choice. I would start with Provey and then Laughton and TK. |

Well, I don’t think they even get to Boston so your point above is irrelevant to me |

They have one goal in their last 3 games so... they probably don't want to lose their leading scorer. They are already without Patches. The air is coming out of their balloon in a hurry. - Phillywhiteout
funny...the savior Ghost, while coming out of the gates strong is now a minus 4. 6 games played. just has the pp points from the two 6 goal wins his first two games. The game i watched the other day, didn't even see him on the ice for PP time, but didn't watch the whole game.

I know Hart's still young and has a decent rep around the league, and he's probably the Flyers' MVP this season, but let's not get carried away with his trade value.
He's a lot closer to Steve Mason than Marty Brodeur. - Tomahawk
Honestly, he still has to work hard to reach the level Mase played at in Philly.

Hart is 79-82-26 with a .905 SV%.
As a Flyer, Mason went 100-76-36 with a .917 SV%. |

not saying the will, but don't write anything off yet. who knows what injuries can occur, and how many times has the best team in the NHL won the cup over the last 20 years. I remember Washington used to be in first a lot, but then bounced in the first round.

TK is a UFA in two years, just like Provorov. If one is available for trade because the Flyers are soft tanking for at least the next two seasons, then they should both be available.
Hart will need an extension in one year, and I would rather trade him than overpay him. I'm sure his camp would be looking for 8 x 8. - Feanor
Agreed…hopefully who ever gets the GM job has to look at the timeline for winning. I’m not tied to any player they have. Some are just worth more than others. It is an up hill climb as Fletcher really did make some bone headed decisions that will be tough to un do. It’s tough to follow incompetence. (Nice guy apparently but incompetent). |

I don't think anything is a lock for the Flyers going into this off-season, or at the very least it shouldn't be. I suspect that Dave Scott will step down after the season and Daniel Hilferty will step into the defacto owner role. I think he should bring in his own President of Hockey Ops and that person will determine who the GM is. My hope is the new President comes from completely outside the current Flyers organization and if he/she does, I think its not a lock Briere is the GM, and if he isn't the GM, its very likely Torts goes as well. My only point here is if Scott goes (which he absolutely should), every position is up for grabs. |

Who called him the savior?
The Flyers traded a 2nd + 7th to get rid of him, then used the cap space to trade Hagg + 1st + 2nd for Risto. Then they traded a 2nd + 3rd + 4th to sign MAGA Ghost for two years at $5m. That colossal waste of assets is one of many reason Fletcher got fired on Friday. Fletcher could have just kept Ghost till this trade deadline and had eight extra draft picks!

I think it would be a big mistake to trade Hart. The Flyers for the first time in forever (OK, I admit it, I like this song) are set in goal with Hart and Ersson. I would not break up the one strong part of the team for draft picks. I don't want to trade TK either, because I think he can be a leader on this team moving forward, in the mold of a Dave Poulin or Mike Richards. If I have to trade a good player, I guess it has to be Provorov, but to be clear, the Flyers have no one on the team or in their system to replace him. I think the Flyers will get little back for Sanheim, Hayes or Risto, other than cap relief. Laughton would net a good return also. - jd250

Why ? So he can stand in front of a poopty team for the best years of his career? They have other options that can act as target practice for the next 3 years. I actively look to move him if this is a rebuild. |

Did you notice that the Flyers lost out on eight draft picks by trading him when they did?
Or that the Flyers have the league's 29th best record since moving Ghost and Voracek to change the culture in summer of 2021? They only have two more points than Chicago who have been actively tanking.

Why fire a coach at 4 mil for 3 more years when you are going to suck? Torts is and should be safe for another year or two. At least under him they will compete. If in two years some of the kids aren’t showing growth then that’s when Torts will be gone. Growth and development while building a solid identity that fits the modern NHL should be the primary directive for this team over the next 3 years while shedding contracts when ever they can. |

so by trading ghost we lost 8 picks. this is incorrect. the moves were all separate. or should we go back and look at all the changes and say it's because pronger got injured?
Also, same record, but with less talent. jake for cam is a wash. neither are currently playing and jake's career is done. cams may be as well. same with the ellis trade at this point. none of the players are playing in the nhl. the trades were on the gm who was let go. no they didn't make sense, but to couple them all together isn't accurate.

The trend where he starts out hot and fades has to be concerning for any potential trade partner (and the Flyers):
22-23
Oct .938
Nov .901
Dec .900
Jan .911
Feb .888
Mar .893
21-22
Oct .915
Nov .924
Dec .911
Jan .902
Feb .901
Mar .903
Apr .821
Stanley Cup isn't won in October/November after all. |

Torts is absolutely safe for 23-24 as it’s the last year of AV’s deal and Crapcast isn’t going to pay 9 million for 2 coaches to sit at home.
After that he could be gone at any time. |
