He absolutely could've been far more forthcoming about change and been honest with the fans. The way that the coach has been. He had no issue right away letting us know things were screwed up. Instead, Briere is talking about working with people in place. Not what I want to hear. It's time for a scorched earth policy. Like Flyers 01 said earlier. Don't piss on me and tell me it's raining. Nobody has to be called out specifically to convey that message. - MJL
Like I said, even if he knew more changes were coming he is not going to say anything to the press before it happens. I think this was nothing more than an introductory press conference and the main message I got from Danny was just let me finish out the season first and then we'll see what happens in the off-season. |

Foester will never be a speedster, but he has shown in the last two games to be able to keep up with the game and get to the right spots on the ice in time to actually contribute to plays. Last year, he was behind the play a lot and didn't know how to create space for his shot. He will never be a speedster, but will be an adequate skater for his size. I can see his ceiling as maybe a 2nd line player and with that shot will be a weapon on the PP. - jd250
if all remember, skating was the biggest knock on Tyson and the reason he fell the way he did in the draft.

They need to come up with two more picks in the first two rounds of this draft. Hopefully another 1st rounder
I agree. Two off seasons - Just5
Hart can likely get one. Unsure about where the other comes from. I would assume TK or Provorov would get one too. I just dont know who's buying them right now because of how many first rounders went at the deadline. St Louis maybe? Arizona doesn't like hockey players so its a no go. Calgary maybe? They might shake things up. |

He is also interim GM likely wanting the full time job. He won't say anything the team didn't approve of already. He isnt jeopardizing his hiring.
I dont think Briere was being honest to the press. Shocking I know! That a NHL exec would lie to the media. |

TK, provorov, hart.
These are the 3 they need to move this summer to change course here. - Just5
They should listen on every player but those are the 3 that might get them the highest return.

Know when "scorched earth" became popular? When Shanahan said it in Toronto. Not the GM. The bigger boss. Dont expect those types of words from an interim GM. The presser was just to placate media and because it had to be done. Don't for one second think that his statement wasn't likely prepared by PR people. - Aaron_85
The statements I'm referring to were answers to questions in the press conference. Unless he was hand fed the questions that were going to be asked prior. I don't see how the PR staff could've given him prepared answers. His answers were an insight into his mindset and there was much to be concerned about it those answers.

I'm not looking for him to list specific changes that he thinks he is going to make.

Absolutely those could be canned responses and questions. It wouldn't be the first time.
But my statement still stands. He isnt the guy to say such things to the media. He'd avoid it at every cost because everything was likely prepared. |

It is laughable to suggest with the level of incompetence of this organization that any fan should give it a rest. Yes, when it's this bad, anything and everything deserves scrutiny. Speaking of a wrinkle in the sheets. That is the bed that they made for themselves. - MJL
That bed has been there since 1967. You can expect it to be mussed on occasion. That bed has HISTORY!!
And that the disgruntled fans should complain about everything is a right.
Not necessarily sensible though.

So what is the definition of marquee franchise? You can't ask people for it then poop on their definition without offering up your own. - Aaron_85
IMO a marquee franchise is one that has a strong appeal to players and staff regardless of current standings and recent success. It's usually some combination of the city, team history, arena, amenities, ownership, reputation for treating employees exceptionally well, colors/logo/jerseys, endorsement opportunities, (Original Six) mystique, easy travel, post-career job opps, tax exemptions, etc.
I think the Flyers have a lot of the above going for them but they're really starting to fall short in some aspects. They're probably more of a second-tier team at this point if we're being generous. |

I disagree that he gave prepared answers. I don't believe that other than the short opening statement. It was all him and not prepared.

The history is just that. When an organization is as dysfunctional as this one is, you can't and don't deserve to fall back on history. Right now, complaining and looking at every factor is incredibly sensible.

Will anyone who covers the team ask IGMDB if he was asked for input on the rr extension? Cooter extension? Sanheim extension? the contract offered to ND? He was the special assistant to the special assistant to the regional manager after all |

I wouldn't hire anyone who agreed with the Ristolainen trade or the Deslauriers signing. Those players are an example of the Flyers thinking about what it means to be hard to play against.

Yes, early in the cap, the Flyers were still able to work their way around it but once it evolved and teams became more proficient in it. That all went away.

The same group picked two successive GMs who were fired. I say it is well past time to fire the hirers. We need a new group picking the next GM. Good luck to Danny in the competition. - iamscore2day
I remarked about this the other day.
A MEGA corpseration (sic) owns them.
If we want this team to regain a proper stance, to form a desirable culture, a soulless set of bosses may not be the venue that will work.
When those bosses leave, they won't be interested in having left a 'heritage', a legacy.
Now if they can return the Flyers to economic relevance, and they get bonuses, we might see a little more dedication.
This is not a team to bean counters, it is a division of a subsidiary of an independent division of a massive organization...and a minor part at that.
This does not mean they won't do the job, but they may be less involved and not worry on weekends about it. Unlike Snider. |
