This team is really so close. if they can get a true NHL goalie for 1-2 years, and somehow get Johnson signed, that addresses 1 huge hole and could address 2 if Johnson pans out to be a good top 4 D man.

Then if they can snag Carter Hart for 1 year or a real NHL goalie we can easily make the playoffs next year. hart Makes so much sense.

I am really excited for this team's future.

2.25m QO and 1 year from UFA is an issue. Think it's likely that they don't qualify and try to get him at a lower $. Interesting decision, imagine they'd like him back.

Might not matter, but that in between route doesn't let him play in the AHL playoffs.

Maybe Aaron can comment but I'm pretty sure those fans don't like him very much. I'd have to go back to the blog where he was traded. It seems like he had a pretty strong defensive career in Toronto.

I just saw this. He was adequate. He's quick, he's got some skills and a slight scoring touch. He has a big body he doesn't use. Good PKer. As a leaf fan I was done with him for two reasons:

1. He seemed to disappear altogether in the playoffs
2. He was making over 2 million as a 3rd line winger and as sad as it is, just too costly in this cap world for the leafs.

I guess I have a third reason, we have seen enough of what him with the leafs could do in the playoffs (not enough) so time for a new look. Do I think he could benefit the Sabres? Yes most likely.

There is still a "woke" element to it. If this is true, this is more about the Russian government sticking it to the US and the rest of the West over Ukraine. I said about a week ago that I would do away with pretty much every human interest theme night, and I stand by it.

Nobody should be compelled to participate in a cause they don't feel strongly about let alone oppose regardless of what it is. I don't care if it's Hockey Fights Cancer, Saving the Whales, or curing World Hunger.

He's been taking heat for years due to the quality of his play.

For a package of Konecny, Provorov and Hart at the cost of prospects and a future late 1st (protected) added to the nhl group would be worth it IMO.

Yeah I totally agree, I remember when we used to play like 6 or 8 times a year against the leafs.

GMKA really has an important job this summer, now is the time to Murray the team.

I agree with all that with some reservation on Savoie. And I would emphasize the trade target has to be a player or players, not other prospects or picks, and those players need to have established significant skill, especially if they are defensemen who can play defense.
