Add one or two strong pieces on D, a strong short term goalie and two hard to play against, efficient bottom 6 players. This can be done with free agency, picks and what we have throughout the organization without needing to sell Savoie and Kulich. - TheSabresTaco
It probably can. You also can’t pass up any significant opportunities starting this summer.

Wearing a pink jersey is not against anyone's religion. That's all he was asked to do. Similar to snowflake bakers who refuse to do their job of baking a cake for a gay wedding....nobody is making them sleep with another man, just to do their friggin jobs. Wear the jersey, hockey player. Bake the cake, baker. Nobody's religion prevents them from wearing a jersey or baking a cake. It is this "against my religion" nonsense that is the childishly ignorant and irrational part of the discussion. Snowflakes. Worse than any "woke" crap (again, the right's dog-whistle of that word is comically misused and misunderstood.
We're a nation that caters to peoples' feelings more and more, that's undeniable, but if you are on the clock that crap goes out the window imo. - LandlordTom
Yet here we are catering to your feelings....
He was asked to represent "pride" night not a wear a pink jersey. What is pride night? What does it represent? (The jerseys were black with rainbow colors... not pink)
How is being true to your beliefs childish and ignorant? Work does not come before your own beliefs and morals and most jobs don't "force" you to participate in in things that have nothing to do with your job.
Snowflakes to the right and the woke to the left? Love how you get political
Nobody needs the LGTBQABCDEFG agenda shoved down their throats. |

I think it is in this context. But you heard Adams say it a thousand times and you'll hear it a 1,000 more. He will build this team with the short and long term future in mind and he won't sacrifice the future for short term gains. Which means he'll hold his best prospects, probably most of his first round picks, and deal away guys WDWTBH and middling players/prospects in trades.
Part of this is identifying guys who will fit better with you than they did on their own team. Players like this emerge every single offseason via free agency and trade. Good teams find those guys.
But you look at guys like Marchessault.. Verhaeghe.. Lindholm.. (frank), Thompson.. Tuch.. D Toews.. Brent Burns revival..
There's examples all the time. And no one has needed to give up top prospect assets for any of them. Tuch is a little different here, but you get the point.
Be the team that spends average assets on a booming trade. |

To begin, my post was regarding Generic Guy #1, not Jake Chickens.
To be perfectly clear, I will trade any one of those kids for the right player. But there's a point where the two or three best kids we have are not worth (worth more) what teams are trying to sell.
Then it becomes, 'well, would you make Generic Guy #2 available if I included Prospect 1,2 or 3?' - TheSabresTaco

You’re 100% right, but they’ve also not brought those types in yet.
Jost is a save-a-lot version of what you’re talking about. They need to find that version on defense, in goal or as a middle six forward |

Honest question- how many more core players can this team have?
Tuch
Thompson
Dahlin
Power
Cozens
Quinn
Samuelsson
Those are imo the 7 players they 1000% view as being here long term.
Peterka and Krebs are probably a notch below, but close.
That’s potentially 9 guys as your “core”.
They should be doing all they can to add a 1-2 more strong pieces to the above. - sbroads24
You're pushing the meaning of core too far. Thompson, Dahlin, Power, and Cozens are the core, assuming you can get them on long term deals.
Samuelsson is paid as a secondary player. Tuch isn't signed long term and you never know what an extension at 30 would look like. Maybe Quinn gets there, plenty to like, but too soon. Peterka and Krebs are a long way. Some of these young F's aren't going to take the next step(s) and they might not be able to afford them all. 3rd line wingers aren't really core.

I think that's his point. Usually a team has four, maybe five, guys who are untouchable. This team operates like it has 7 or 8 with a couple of "prize" prospects still in the pipeline, all while still not having even qualified for the postseason yet.

I guess the term is subjective, but they gave Samuelsson 7 years after 50 games. They think he’s a big part of their future. I think I’d label him a core guy.
Is also put Quinn there. He’s Adams first big draft pick and is on a very good trajectory |

You’re right, but mainly I’m identifying guys that if we had to guess, they will be here in 4-5 years from now.
They have a lot of those players already.
They can afford to move some prospects out |

They have to move some out, with as young as some of this Core is and a few others that will probably join that. There is No way all these prospects ever see Buffalo. |

I have to dip my toes in these waters.
So let me get this straight, just because you work for ANYONE you have to give up your morals and beliefs? So what your saying is your employer OWNS you and you have to do whatever he or she says? isn't that sorta what was happening back in the Slavery days?
Yeah that is a HARD fooking NO from me.

Guess it is. Implies build around guys to me, not supporting players.
It's the Sabres though, core 4th liners are a thing.

If I remove the term core player from what I’m trying to get at, I think more what I mean is trying to identify how many opening they are going to have 2,3,4 years down the road and I don’t think it’s that many.
I will be pretty disappointed if they use their first this year instead of trading it. And I’m prepared to be disappointed |

Okposo, Girgensons, Hinnostroza, Olofsson are all likely candidates to move out within the next two seasons. Mitts is another one that is on the fence, although I like his game personally. Most of those guys aren't in the same role as you would want your 1st rounders playing, but that doesn't mean these guys come in and play in that type of game.
If 2 of the 5 first round picks from 2021, 2022, 2023 (excluding Power) are full time NHL players by the end of next season that's a great result. If 3+ are contributing by the season after that I am thrilled. |

They will be 100% using their 1st this year. Not even a question imo. With how this draft is supposed to be for offensive talent they will not give them away. I would say that the 2nd is more likely to be traded but since they already did that for Greenway I expect them to use most of those picks as well. |

I expect them to take the 1st on D. Wanted to see some 2nd's move. Didn't have Greenway in mind, still not sure on that one.
