Considering he can't play in Amerks playoffs anyway, it's not like he's missing a development experience by not playing an additional 2-3 games down there if he split starts with Subban. Now that he's on ELC, there's really no reason to send him there. There may also be a contract stipulation or handshake agreement preventing him from going there for the rest of the year too.

I wouldn't completely rule out Roch. Still a month of games. I think you're right that he stays up though.

Even if Levi played for us and did bad, you chalk it up to there's just too much difference to go from NCAA to NHL without some time to adjust. At this point, there is no downside to playing him up here. You give Andy his starts and give Levi everything else.

He's grasping. He thought no one would call out his ridiculous Savoie comment, and now he's going to make the equally ridiculous claim Savoie is in the NHL next season. Why would the Sabres rush a small forward? Are we lacking in tiny skilled forwards? He's not in the NHL next season.

Jumping in on this late but I don't think it's realistic to think that any 2nd year player is going to outperform a guy like Meier unless we're talking one of the generational kids like Bedard, and even then they take time to get going. We don't even know for sure if Savoie is going to be in the NHL next year full time and how he will do if he is.

I'm hoping Savoie is up next year if only because he will likely learn more playing against better competition, but I do not expect him to contribute too much. Quinn has 31 points in 60 games, JJP has 26 in 63. These are the numbers I expect any of Kulich, Ostlund, Rosen, or Savoie to put up if they are up here full time next year.

Obviously don't kill his confidence and throw him to the wolves like we like to do, but I would definitely want to give him a few games. I would expect it to be after a few practices where they can get him to work with the coaches and team but in around 2 weeks time I think get him in there.

Home against Montreal on the 27th looks like a good day to start him. If the team goes on a tear before then, beating teams like Boston, New Jersey, and the Islanders and you're in a playoff spot then you're starting your rookie against the weakest team on your schedule. If they lose a few of those and are sliding out of the race then why worry about it and focus on his growth instead.

That said I got tickets for Tuesday so if they want to play him then I won't be upset.

Makes sense. The leverage that they had was limited, and he had all of the cards but could only really get a bit more out of it without going nuclear, so it was a game of chicken and it works out of both sides. Sabres get their guy and have plenty of space since ELCs are not large, he gets as much money as he can now.

Now his leverage is gone, so we'll see what they do as far as next year's goalie situation. UPL and Comrie are both under contract, Levi would likely start in Rochester unless he exceeds expectations, so we will see if they try to bring in a more veteran guy to take games from one of the two NHL guys.
