Hear me out.....and this is where maybe I over-value Murphy.
Assuming he isn't brain dead by next February, nobody here thinks if KD retained 50%, a 2.2 cap hit for 2 full years after his trade wouldn't entice a D starved contender? I mean did anyone think McCabe was tradeable this year? this would be the exact same scenario they just did McCabe this deadline.
Looking forward to next year, just think Murphy will be 1 of the few assets KD may be willing to flip and he can still retain on another salary after that as Murphy/McCabe only make up 2 of the 3 allowed.
I am sure he will go bargain bin shopping, give border line top 6 guys 1 year deals and hope with more ice time and better production/play they entice playoff teams.
That's all I am saying. Again, alll assuming 5 stays as healthy as he can. he can only say "NO" to 10 teams....so you have 22 you can work with....... - SteveRain
I highly doubt KD is going to only leave one spot open to retain. He didn't weaponize cap space this year at the TDL like Minnesota did, but as the cap is only going up $1 mil. there will probably be some sweet deals in the off season to take advantage of the slots.
And why would a team give up an asse for Murphy even at $2.2 mil. when I can sign right shot defenseman Holl, Guddas, Shattenkirk, Sketcher, Braun , Shenn for that amount for less as a UFA and not give up an asset? |

The WHA pulled the franchise they were going to give to Dayton, OH because the proposed owners could only get access to a 5,000 seat college arena. It went to Houston instead. But it's good enough for the NHL.

Remember the Chicago Cougars playing at Randhurst for the AVCO cup finals against Houston (Gordie Howe and his sons )? Peter Pan took precedence at The Amphitheatre, Allstate Arena was just in planning stage, and Wirtz laughed when asked if the Stadium could be used.
That was the beginning of the death of the Cougars, and permanently scarred the WHA. |

He did make a nice block last night probably saved a goal. Honestly he's better in LR system then any other he's played in, still goes to the boards loses the puck battle then ends up behind his guy going to the net unfortunately, I've also noticed since Murphy is such a bad passer he now basically does a wrist shot to center ice at his own forward so he can just knock it down to his own stick. Which is different but hey whatever works - BetweenTheDots
I see similarities between Murphy and Athanasiou. It seems like they decide what they are going to do with the puck right away. They have no sense of what their teammates or their opponents are going to do or where they are on the ice. Tunnel vision. If their decision is bad they do it anyway.

Never went to a Cougar game, although I did catch an LA Sharks game when I was in LA. The blue puck was, interesting.
Cougars uniforms were great. |

Nobody wants Murphy, so you can't sell "high". You can't even sell low. Just think, you have 3 more years after this one to complain every day how Murphy needs to be traded. It ain't happening, just like S. Jones is not getting traded. I look forward to hearing you post about Murohy for the next 3 years. And for that reason, KD is not going to buy him out and carry the cap hit for the next 6 years, nor is he going to retain for the next 3, especially when he already has one slot (Mc Cabe) for the next 2.
I got lucky, I don't have to wail about Kubalik anymore because KD was able to get rid of him for free. - LAHawk
I cannot disagree on Murphy. But I do acknowledge he has improved for 2 reasons.
1) He is not playing Colliton's ridiculous system.
2) Dean and Richardson are working with him to increase his effectiveness and reduce his most grievous and repetitive mistakes.

Hang in there, its only 3 more years and we kind of need him for the tank, personally i couldn't stand him on a club when we were trying to win, but the situation has changed, who's worse Zaitsev or Murphy, I'm not sure

You're probably right, watching the game last night AA passes were tough to watch. I think he missed the forward on the power play so bad entering the zone we got called for icing.
On another note i do appreciate Hardman checking Marchand at the blue line last night, don't appreciate the refs not calling slashing on Marchand while he was falling to the ice the little wiener. |

Despite the record, I'm really impressed with coach Luke in many levels. I hope he is here for awhile. I'm just glad Toews and Kane is not here...They were slowing the game down.....The real rebuilding starts next year....Keep Raddyish and bring back Domi and have him wear C....Really like Guttman the way puck is finding his stick and Kurashev is showing me something.....Liking the way S. Jones is taking more chances offensively...... |

Wow LA. Totally remember that total bashing.
What a terrible trade giving up McCabe for him.
Here's an interesting nugget what we got for Kapotsev from the Islanders:
March 9, 2004– Traded by the Chicago Blackhawks to the New York Islanders in exchange for New York's 2005 fourth-round draft choice (Niklas Hjalmarsson).[13] |

Think you're confusing what the BOD (Board of Doom) is all about.
The acronym and phrase were coined when good ole' JJ was the blogger. Was a much different tone/tenor on here and people were losing their minds, calling the team soft, pirouetting ballerinas, advocating trading most of the Hawk superstars for other "better" or "tougher" players, etc.; and all while the team was winning Cups.
The Sikura thing was nothing more than fans hoping the Hawks had a diamond in the rough. However there was no diamond only rough. |

I hear you and I have seen very little of him but so many ?? about his story worries me .Then I think of Yakupov and I am like ya maybe Michkov falls into the teens we could try and engineer something to get him . Give me a Canadian kid like Benson little slight but feisty high energy motor and offensive Dymo right up KD ally . I do think Michkov will drop unless someone has a inside track . |

The record is probably much better than it should be considering the on ice talent. Effort and smart hockey won last night’s game. - paulr
I might have the stat slightly off but IIRC the Hawks have a 42% expected goals for at 5 on 5 on the yr. That's terrible and means they've had very good goaltending and a lotta luck.
The roster has been bad all yr, is full of bottom 6 and 3rd pairing guys but the group is hungry and coachable.
