This is a good podcast "Coming in Hot" with Brent Wallace, Jason York and Bobby Ryan.
They offer a perspective from guys who actually played professionally in the NHL which is always interesting. Here is the link to their latest which deals with what's going on with the Sens lately. If you value an informed analysis it would be well worth a listen.

They definitely aren't now.

I am not sure what the playoff odds would have been had Ottawa beat the beatable opponents of Chicago and Vancouver. Had that of happened, I assume the playoffs are a much more realistic opportunity. As much as fans can be realists, the team put themselves in a place where they controlled their destiny. I wasn’t feeling the “games mattered” vibe prior to the Red Wings back-to-back games, but those wins, along with the Rangers win, certainly put that vibe in the head.

Sens could afford 6 or 7 losses down the stretch after beating Columbus. They have used up 3 already and are about to embark on one of the tougher stretches of the season. Mix that in with the blowout losses, it’s hard to not have a little doom and gloom.

Agreed, I've been watching those for a while as well - some really interesting stories come from Bobby Ryan fairly regularly about the late-Melnyk era. But it's definitely a very honest appraisal of the team, and that particular episode gets into the psychology of a young team facing this kind of pressure. Always worth a listen.

There's also some interesting rumors around Carter Hart being available from PHI now that they fired their GM. He wouldn't be available for the "playoffs", but Hart seems like a very Chychrun-type addition. Very cost-controlled for this year and next year at $4.0M, and would certainly be a missing link.

I'm rooting for you guys! I would love for the Sens to sneak in. Them and actually Buffalo, but we will pretend like i didn't say that. Lol.

It would be good for this team to get some playoff exposure.

Logic says that they should lose tonight but maybe that means they stand a chance.

Looking forward to seeing Chycrun with Zub. Switching up the top 2 lines is a good move but I would prefer to see Debrincat moved up with Stutzle instead of Batherson.

Same story every F***ing season. They need to have a batter coach. I like DJ but if they get a more seasoned coach, they would at least be 1 or 2 points within a wildcard for most of the year (*with 4D-men like they have now)

Classic Sens 2nd period that's for sure. Yikes.
