I'm going to base this team's progress on how they do next season with meaningful games. I agree about not being fooled. I saw all kinds of positives last season during that lengthy hot run which this one is just a shadow of in comparison. Too many times this team plays their best hockey in meaningless games. - boonerbuck
Exactly. It is how they start next year that matters.

Yup I agree. My problem is slow starts to seasons. Just don’t see why it happens to the degree it has. Tells me coaching & players weren’t ready. Training camps be where I point my finger. When the PK can suck that badly it is all on coaches. Ya tending was horrible but they were hung out to dry a lot also.
If RT is serious & the players given a list of offseason to do’s & they act like pros & go hard it that is a great start. Everyone should be in mandatory top condition. Many to hit the weights & skating coaches. - Nighthawk
I remember all to well. People were lining up to tell me the preseason doesn't matter when Bruce was not putting more than 1 NHL line together in any of the games. He was playing the poop out of the AHL line up... So like Green he used the beginning of the regular season to start putting 4 lines together and it showed immediately that things were a mess.
Rutherford twice during the terrible stretch of results mention first and above all that they had a terrible camp and it got them off to a cold start. I'm really really hoping that the Green/Bruce attitude that camp/preseason doesn't matter is a thing of the past. If you are trying to figure out your 9th D, 20th forward and 4rth goalie late in the preseason, you are running the Abby camp not the Canucks camp...
In mid season they usually draw players from the farm who are playing strong... not someone who showed chemistry 4 months ago but is cold at the moment.... way too much went into "lets see what we have on the farm" at the end of camp. Start camp like that but change gears and get the NHL team ready while you can.

Here is a name maybe for third line center. Sean Monahan. If you could get him around 1.5 I think he would be a great reclamation project. If he does have a bad year he can be sent down with minimal cap hit. If he finds his game you have a hell of a deal on your roster.
I don't see teams paying him more than 2 mil after the struggles. |

I have given up on BB scoring, but I will say I think he plays a smart two-way game. I think he will finish again around 55 points. I guess what I am saying is I don't want to rush a Boeser trade. If there is ever a very good return for him, you take it but he has chemistry now with Miller and even on a down year will score 15 goals.
I have said it a few times I would not screw much with the forward group. I think having Mikheyev back and Garland with Boeser is a very decent tier 2 set of forwards.
I don't care personally who the Canucks draft if it is after number 10 so if you can get someone like a Romanov, I would be okay with trading that pick. I still like Graves and he is young enough still for a five year deal. - VANTEL

Not familiar with him. I haven't watched a lot of hockey this year so I will leave it up to you Mini and Reuby.
 - VANTEL
Well tbh…
Mini follows & tracks prospects the most.
I’m in 2nd place.
Reuby tosses darts 🤪 |

I think I sort of get what they are doing with prospects. Like you said nothing shiny but serviceable. - VANTEL
All about the process especially with D. As we all know probably the hardest skater position to learn & play well. Never know how they develop or how their growth curve goes. |

I wasn’t in the training camp doesn’t matter crowd in the slightest. Idc about those wins & losses 1 iota. Training camp in my mind is prep for the season especially systems & special teams. Not the time for AHL rosters. Mix them in but it’s all about practice like you play & that is about the NHLers. Watering it down is for established teams & we weren’t that. |

I don’t follow the prospects much but I could see us drafting this guy if we keep the pick
https://www.eliteprospect...4818/axel-sandin-pellikka - Shuswap Wap
He probably will be there for us if not then a better C maybe. It would be pick of him only if Mgmt wants more offensive RHD. His D is far from close to NHL ready. Reinbacher is more logical given his tool kit we need. Besides wtf do I know I still prefer a C like Moore in our pick range. If RHD that works too. Trade down also not outta the question if sweetened nicely. Allows them to have more options on who to pick. Could go BPA or say Simashev. Gonna be interesting. |

Problem with him is his defense has always been poor. Goal scorer yes. |

I never cared about wins losses in preseason either... Just get to work on prepping the lines, special teams and the coaches getting things figured out that matter most.
No matter how many times I explained it to people, they kept circling back to wins and losses. Talking about thinking inside a little box.

I rather less games & more practices to get ready for the season. Don’t like risking injuries & they don’t play the real roster players that much anyways. Play maybe 4 games & have more scrimmages for prospects or the depth players. |

I think the amount of games is fine. I agree with Booner that the amount of time wasted on players that have no chance of making the team is wasteful. Give them one game then adios.
