Even if they were to win the lottery (with a 1/2 of one percent chance), they could pick no higher than 5th. The 12th to 16th teams cannot pick first. No team can jump more than 10 spots. - bmeltzer
My comment was predicated on the assumption they would fall far enough. I am well versed in the lottery odds and who can pick where.
Sadly I have become somewhat obsessed with running tankathon mock drafts.

Is Braun that bad or was the Zamula move made to see if the kid is actually NHL ready?
Or are the showing of Zamula for a possible trade? - WhiskeyMan
Maybe all three. Tanner just always hurt. Lol. But seriously he has struggled since his return. Kid gets some nhl playing time and easier to double shift tip. Funny how people are whining about this. |

The lottery system weighting and max spots have changed several times, first as a disincentive for tanking and then, moving a bit back in the other direction, to reduce how far a team could rise or drop.
The Flyers hit their 2.4% chance in 2017 to move up from 13th to 2nd overall --the jbiggest jump in lottery history. Unfortunately, we know how that one worked out. - bmeltzer

I dont want them to have even a sniff of winning the lottery. - MBFlyerfan
You can be sure that if they miss the playoffs, there will be some serious Bettman shenanigans going on at draft lottery time.

It’s hard to figure who Count Chocula likes better, Arizona or Pittsburgh. Tough choice for him this year. |

Only the NHL would want the next big thing playing in a mickey mouse arena in a market where no one cares about hockey. |

Yep, the thought of Bedard toiling away in front of 4000 fans for the next 2 seasons (or more) is not a good look for the NHL.
It's bad enough McDavid is stuck in Edmonton playing at 10:30p for the majority of hockey fans.

By Torts? Absolutely.
He has had some terrible games, does he get scratched? Ever? Even benched for a long stretch? Nope, never. - BiggE
Torts wants to win. He doesn’t have 6 better defensemen on the ice if he benches Provorov. I’ve never had a coach at any level that treats all his players the same.

It's simply not a reality that a coach treats all players the same. The issue is just don't BS people and say that you do. Tortorella reveals himself to be more mediocre by the day.

It's impossible to treat every player the same at every level. You are not going to expect ND to score 30 goals and bench him when he is not performing at that level.
You can absolutely manage engagement and effort level the same for every player though. |

Torts, the self-proclaimed fair-dealer and straight-shooter....

And IMO he seems to time his mind-games to be as vindictive as possible.

I wholeheartedly disagree that Provorov is in Torts’ good graces. Torts doesn’t even bring up Provorov. I think I heard they had a meeting last summer and Torts told him point blank that he thinks he’s a shell of what he used to be. Not to mention DeAngelo, York and Sanheim seem to get power play time ahead of Provorov.
The players on the side of the bench who receive back rubs after ever shift I believe are Laughton, Cates, Tippett, DeAngelo and Seeler. Maybe Risto too but not like the 5 I mentioned. Everyone else seems fair game to public criticism. |

My guess is Chicago as well. If Bedard did land in Philly though, we’re looking at Crosby love the same way he landed in Pittsburgh. Crosby has lived off a career of phantom calls going his way one can only dream of. |

If the league has there way I assume they would want him to go to the Ducks, Sharks or CBJ. It would be better for the league if he went to Philly. I think CBJ gets the first overall. |

Wow are you naive. There are areas where Torts will treat everyone the same. For example, Torts wants all players to live up to the standard that he is setting, being competetive every night, playing with max effort, playing within the system he as his staff have established, etc. Torts has proven this in his benching of Sanheim, Risto, DeAngelo, Hayes, TK and to some extent Farabee. But clearly Torts, and any coach, treats an up and coming young player like Tippet or Cates who make a mistake trying to make a play much differently than he would treat a veteran player who made the same mistake. Torts has never stated he will treat all players the same outside of upholding the standard. |
