Seems logical, but I wouldn't be surprised if Lane leans heavily on Sorokin and plays him every game until they clinch the playoffs. - JohnScammo
I'd imagine there's a very fine line between playing your stud goaltender as much as possible when you need wins vs. overworking him and risking injury/burnout.
I wouldn't be against playing him back-to-back nights but they honestly should be able to beat CBJ with Varly in net, they're the worst team in the league. |

Guy can dream that all of these teams rest some vets before the playoffs. Really need Horvat to start scoring again here. Has to get out of his slump. - Cptmjl
Tonight would be a good game to do it, Columbus has allowed 29GA in their last 5 games

So 10 games left a possible 20 points. How many do the Islanders need to make a WC spot?. |

All they need to do is keep pace with the Pens and Panthers the rest of the way, the games in-hand for both teams is gone now.
Even if they finish tied with PIT they'll have the first tie-breaker by a country mile (regulation wins, 32 to 26 at the moment) |

If they wind up with Bedard and make some decent off-season moves they’ll be a force in a reasonable amount of time. They have some good players. |

Johnston Bailey Wotherspoon working as extras, showing on Varlamov. Varly the only goalie on ice this morning.
Sounds like Sorokin goes tonight, we'll see what happens tomorrow |

Little shocked with this decision. Lambert has played Sorokin in back to back situations before but kind of figured varly would be in there tonight. I’d rather play Sorokin tomorrow against a stronger team in the Sabres. Maybe he’s trying to lock down these two points tonight idk? |

Totally agree. I wasn't arguing in favor of playing Sorokin every game, just guessing that Lane might do it, based on his past practice.
I suspect Lane's (and Lou's) approach is to go all-out to just make the playoffs, figuring Sorokin is young enough to handle the extra duties. |

He's still not skating yet. They can say Barzal is coming back....so is Christmas. Until I see him on the ice working out, I'm not going to get too excited.

Maybe, I mean they should probably still be capable of beating Buffalo with Varly in net |

Yeah absolutely don’t get me wrong I’m not flaming the decision just a bit confused by it. If the plan is to play varly tomorrow I just think it would be better to play Sorokin instead against an obvious better team. I think the Sabres are aware they’re out of it at this point. Maybe they’ll roll over but we also know maybe they’ll embrace spoiling it for us. |

Gotta win at least one of the back to back so may as well start your best vs the weaker team |

That's what I was thinking as well. Plus Sororkin's got great numbers vs CBJ. Tonight 2 points is a must. I thought Varly would be in goal tonight but I understand the decision. Sabres are playing Devils tonight so I'm sure tomorrrow night will be the battle of the backups and I like our chances with Varly |
