They had 12 scoring chances and 3 high danger chances in the first period. As opposed to zero for the Rangers. You can be happy the Rangers won. But you also have to admit playing like that and winning is lucky. - tomburton99
No, not as a rule I don't.
I watched that game with a certain level of fascination. The 'Canes are a phenomenal team right now. I'm not sure I picked out a single mistake made by any of their players in the 1st period. At all. None of them. Yet, apart from an perfect shot by Aho, we stayed right with them. ONLY allowing 3 dangerous chances is not lucky. It's hard work and effort. I was not upset with the Rangers after one period, I was impressed with the Hurricanes. No quit in NY was on full display. We all know by now this team gets better as the game wears on. They worked the plan and counter-punched when possible and little by little we imprinted on the flow of the game and in the 3rd, we were the ones frustrating them. |

I think home ice vs the devils is what to shoot for. But is it really a big deal? They aren’t as good at home as they’re on the road (Devils I mean) |

Devils are an unproven playoff bound team. Who knows how they will perform. |

Which is also true. The played better in the 3rd period. They engaged Carolina physically and limited their shots/scoring chances. Some questionable decisions, sure. But that is every game. - tomburton99
End of the day both teams ended with exactly 2.2 xGF despite the extremely different styles of play. |

Like I said to Jan, for as much as disliked watching the first two period, you (I) have to give the Rangers credit for the 3rd period. Of the last 6 period played vs the Canes Tuesday and yesterday, they was easily their best. Credit where credit is due from me. |

Way more skilled up front but their defense still stinks |

That's great that you can admit that. But, the fact that you chalk up playing a great team in their own barn and defending for all they're worth, limiting high quality chances, as luck is a narrow-minded view. IMO. It's a huge part of the game and we did it really well. |

Unsure I would say stinks, would say not at Carolina level. When Nemec and Hughes are there, the talent level will get a major boost in future |

It’ll be a high scoring series, which probably plays better into the rangers hands. They are more comfy in that type of game imo |

Oh yeah they're going to be a menace soon.
I don't have a lot of faith in their ability to hold off a high pressure attack. |

I mean that ended 53/47 for Carolina a slight coin flip. Could it have been worse, yeah. |

Those two, yes. As whole unit, they don't seem to do it well given the stats. - tomburton99
Idk man. They've outscored their opponents 26-9 in their last 6 games. We're not going to get that offensive explosion every night like we did against Pitt or NSH, especially against teams that play the style of hockey the Canes do. But we have the high end talent at every level, including our goaltender. I think that gives us the ability to play with any team and any style that team plays. Everything tightens up in the playoffs, so the goals will come fewer and further between likely. I don't consider having elite talent playing like elite talent lucky, though.

what's fun about coming to this blog anymore if we have a supposed fan who never shuts up who purposely tries to make everyone miserable when we win hockey games?
this is just never ending, and Jan doesn't do a thing about it |

I mean, I don't want to speak for Tony, but I'm not taking our conversation as an argument. I think it's two rational people discussing the game the Rangers played last night. Tony is more positive than I am. Am I doom and gloom? I don't think so. I just complimented their style of play in the 3rd period and Igor Shesterkin. Do I want the Rangers playing that more often than not, no. That's it. Tony's not wrong. I don't think I am either. Those two feelings can coexist. |
