Same here. Used to hunt small game almost every fall weekend with my family. Shotguns.....both large and small-bore rifles....gave me a healthy respect for them. But hunting weapons vs. Automatics is a different story.....the only reason I can ever think of having one is I had to live out my own version of Red Dawn. - bullethead7
Had some farmers and hunters in the family. Hunting for food or controlling farm pests like groundhogs or coyotes is one thing. But these pictures of families with kids holding assault rifles like it's a Christmas card are creepy to me.

The "Mc Donalds Diet" - it's a real thing and no, not just for Morgan whatever his name is from Super Size Me.
It's more about portion control from the sounds of it though - how many of you could have a full Big Mac Meal in front of you and only eat half and be like "ya I'm good".
I am sure I could not do this every day for 100 days.

And what’s the common denominator in all these shootings? Hint - six people were killed by guns, not pronouns. |

I'm inclusive. Any person regardless of colour/creed/affiliation/gender can shoot a bunch of people and be a monster. It's the American Dream. |

Yep, no background checks needed to buy a gun in Tennessee and no Red Flag laws that would allow a judge to order the confiscation of guns from people deemed to be a danger to themselves or others. That’s quite the dream. |

Radicalization of the left and the right is exacerbating gun violence.
Not sure if the manifesto (if one actually does exist) was released by the shooter but I'm willing to bet this mass shooting was directly a result of polarizing rhetoric on both sides of the ledger. |

About a decade ago, we were staying with friends in Northern California.
The husband took me to a gun range. He and his buddy, after finding out I had never even held a gun before, brought an arsenal.
I shot a cop shotgun, two assault rifles, a regular rifle, a glock, a .357 magnum, a little pistol ("that's what you buy your wife - no recoil, so they can hit targets"), a 100 year old rifle.
And you know what? This socialist commie bleeding-heart liberal loved it. It was fun as heck.
So I get it. Americans having a lot of guns is kinda like when I used to have seven hockey sticks in my garage.
But these guys were responsible gun owners. The people we were staying with had a massive gun safe, and everything was locked up tight, and the kids didn't have the combination.
And I'd love to take up hunting. I love meat, and I'd rather eat something that lived in the wild than was factory-farmed.
Having said that, it's bizarre that people think that you can't put simple laws in place to regulate guns.
The word "regulated" is in the 2nd Amendment, FFS.

I feel like the topic of gun violence is insanely reductive on both sides.
The Left = More guns mean more violence! Banning and controlling guns will totally fix the problem. The founding fathers didn't foresee AR15s!
The Right = Guns aren't the problem, people are the problem... but we don't want Red Flag laws!
Sigh. It's way more intricate and nuanced than these beliefs. America was born out of bloodshed and the culture is way more complex and nuanced than either side is willing to concede. |

You know I loves ya Jonesie but calling BS on this. There is no nuance to the dumbass belief that guns aren't the problem. It's the guns, period. Way too much evidence and history from countries with gun control that make this obvious.

In my opinion, you're both partially right. Guns allow for the reaction to the problem to be exacerbated and elevated.
The problem is very deep. It's not necessarily strictly that America was borne out of bloodshed (Australia was founded by criminals) - it's that the growing divide in wealth and push of capitalism of America has created such an incredible disparity between what you're told you CAN have and what you DO have that it creates a schism. People seek to blame someone or something for that. Immigrants, religion, political parties, individual politicians, teachers, authority figures, etc.
Reducing guns, controlling guns, regulating guns - it would have an impact on the scope of these incidents, but the anger isn't going anywhere until they start to address their social issues internally.
You see it here to a lesser extent, but it's growing as we adopt more capitalistic ideologies and our wealth divides widen.

Except the debate in the US is focused on putting some modest controls on the sale and ownership of guns. For the right, background checks and red flag laws are considered an absolute infringement on a constitutional right enshrined when muskets were in use. States like Tennessee are passing “Constitutional Carry” laws that allow for purchase of guns to anyone over the age of 18 without any background check or training.
The only discussion of banning is over AR15s, the gun that so frightened cops in Texas they refused to go after the shooter in the school. |

Love you too, Aeth, but you can't compare other nations with the US - there are just too many cultural, historical, and population differences (immigrants, rural vs. urban, etc.) to account for.
It's satisfying to say, "guns are the problem", but that's way too broad a statement. Which problem? All of them? Mass shootings? Inner city gun violence? Suicides?
How would you enforce strict gun laws? And which weapons do you propose banning? Just AR15s? All semi-automatic rifles? Handguns?
How would you propose enforcing that?
There is nothing "simple" about the topic of gun control and America. And my position ain't BS. |

Breaking away from #gunbuzz for a moment I'm not a big fan of Burger's Priest, I found it way overpriced for what it was. I'll take a good old mom and pop shop burger or a hole in the wall but been serving burgers forever over almost every new hip burger place I've tried.
Dangerous Dan's at Broadview and Queen is a great example of the type of burger joint on my go to list in the Tdot.
I decided to go old school sub for lunch, The BellyBuster on King West - never dissapoints.
