Hughes told Lebrun last week he doesn't plan to sign big UFA names, team is rebuilding, focused on younger talent to speed up the rebuild. He said Habs won't be signing 28yrs old players, doesn't feet the plan - Symba007
time to trade quantity for quality.
these kids coming up won't all play. Heineman, Farrell, RHP, Ylonen...
same thing on defense. |

I think they do it also because they know they have him, not risking waiting a year and risk him going elsewhere. Dubois turns 25 this summer...he fits the plan - Symba007
Third team at 25, is this guy a 'head case'?? |

I know that.
But they will draft twice in the first round this summer.
Anyway you put it, they need more skill in their top 6. It is very thin this season. - deadpoulet
I know, curious to see what HuGo will do, they have prospects coming up, they have 2 first round picks and Dubois is roomered to want to play for MTL at the latest in 2024.
Things are looking good for MTL finally, we just have to be patient. Hughes did say he was open to move Florida's pick to speed up the process, I think he pulls the Dubois trade this summer, just my opinion. I say Florida's 1st and Kidney |

For me, Heineman, Ylonen, Harris, Struble, Trudeau, Kidney.....they can be bargaining chips for needs.
I think they will want to keep the few decent French speaking prospects they have, guys like Roy, RHP and maybe Dubois eventually would help shut up the local media |

if the 2024 draft is as good and deep as everybody says it is, that could be a pretty good player even outside the top 10.
The main reason to do that trade, other than get 8 years of Dubois instead of 7, it's hard to put a winning culture when you lose all the time and that 2 years in a row.
They won't be making the playoffs next season either, but we need to see progress at some point. |

and lets be clear here, it's not that these kids are not good, or won't have a nice career, but Habs can't dress a 32 men roster |

exactly and they have a lot of smaller players, there is not room for all of those small guys
Farrell
RHP
Mesar
Simoneau
with Caufield and Gallagher on the team

Harris has more value than any of these guys cause he has shown he can play at the NHL level.
I don't see the point of trading RHP, he's a bottom 6 player and GMS know that. He will have more value for mtl than anywhere else.
I don't know the value of Roy if he can't crack an NHL top 6 one day. |

RHP is making a case to stick around, curious to see what Farrell will do. Mesar will most likely go to Laval next year and he just turned 19. |

You'd think most 22 year olds would be happy just to be in the NHL, not asking for trades..
Edit, just looked up who was the Columbus coach when he was traded.
Makes sense now. |

well RHP is 24, Roy is 19 and still in Jrs, we should give him a chance to take the next step. |

When you are seen as a star in the NHL at that age....
And he's about to be a UFA Pete. He can test the waters if he wants to. Part of the god damn CBA. |

I'm guessing he will play in Laval next season?
Also what do you think will happen with Mailloux? |

They give him a good look at camp to see if he can crack the right side, I say he plays in Laval for a while and if he does well he will move up. We know he can play offensively, be physical but can he defend well at the pro level, we will see.
btw...he finished 1st in the OHL this year with 25 goals for defensemen |
