he did a little but it was how many strides he took to deliver the hit, could have been a charge, York needed to be more aware also - wcorvette
I've liked York's game lately cause he seems to be getting up into the play more. He is making some mistakes, but I'm glad to see that he is getting more confident with the puck. That being said, he needs more on ice awareness or he isn't gonna be around long. That guy basically charged him from the blue line and York didn't seem to even be aware that he was coming. Gotta have that head on a swivel as they say.
That ND double fight was highly entertaining. Kastelec is very lucky the refs were in the way. Watson's hit should have resulted in a penalty. ND administered the punishment instead. Sandstrom was good in regulation.
Overall that might be the worst game they played all year in terms of driving play. 8 more to go.

people complain all they want. but the players are glad he is there. two years ago we would've just been man handled the whole game.

Even if both of those players leave. I would be completely shocked if the Bruins brought in Hayes. - MJL

agree on all fronts. Most games I don't even notice York and that is a good thing, kid is smooth. He has a little of the Frost bite, just needs to lean in more to take it to the next level. At 22, we will see York take steps forward, he should be a really good first pair D in his prime, a little Kimo to me. The Flyers find elite top D, with York, that would be fun

i do wonder when york will get the deep respect from the commentators like kimmo used too. when he was here seemed like every game, since he left i have not heard the call nearly the same.
Kimmo shoots it wide on purpose, crafty veteran play.

I agree to a point. I wish ND was a better hockey player though.
I am sure his teammates love him though. Honestly, the double fight was pretty damn badass. Just wish he would have gotten his money's worth with Kastelec. I am not sure how Kastelec does not get an instigator there. He started the squirmish with a push and then followed ND across the ice. I believe both game misconducts were automatic.
If we get a 3rd rd pick for Hayes I'd be ecstatic. If we retain salary I'd want more though
But Hayes has checked out and I can't wait to see him go. Get his lazy bum away from the youth movement. He is not the example that I want the kids looking to as they develop

agree on the fight. Would be nice if ND was better. but hard to find those like big buff, simmonds, wilson, or even Aaron Asham, that can throw and provide another great skillset. he's not as bad as some other "goons". 11 points isn't getting you much, but when you look around the team, no one is competing for the hart trophy. the role has shifted and those guys do need to provide more than just fighting. keeps the other team honest.

since the kids have been getting more ice time the Flyers seem like a better skating team. For me, it makes ND stand out in not a good way, he just seems 2 steps behind the play. I didn't feel that in the beginning of the season.

agree. and don't expect him to get a lot of ice time. doesn't help that the other two on his line can't skate either or that someone else can't be double shifted in his place.
bellows and tanner getting 7 mins . we are basically rolling three lines. i think overall team speed has been an issue for years. and hope it continues to improve.
i do like bellows skills, but as i think bill mentioned...nhll skill and smarts...ahl feet
Have to admit I have never seen an NHL head coach watch his team from above the rink with the defacto GM during the regular season. Its odd if you ask me. The message it sends is harsh IMO.

When Torts talks about subtraction of those players that are not bought in, I believe he is talking primarily about Kevin Hayes. The Flyers will need to cover salary to move him, but its addition by subtraction at this point. The Flyers want to get younger and surround those players with the right type of veterans ... Tort's type of veterans ... and Hayes is not that.
I want the Flyers to lose but when you watch a game like last night where they’re out of it and the shot totals are telling you everything you need to know and they start fighting and fighting sparks the team and leads to goals, I can’t help but root for a win! I can’t help it! It’s hard to hope for a loss against a team in so passionate over.
As for the old heads. I hear you guys about fighting but it’s also unfair to hear the stories of the broad street bullies. You loved that time. You loved it. Blood and championships. As a young guy, you’re telling me times have changed and I shouldn’t enjoy what I’m getting at all? Hypocrite! Get out of here with that poop! We’re bad and I still want to be entertained!

either salary of a contract back. i like how elliott friedman said it. not the right place or time for him anymore. he did say there is interest around the league.
After the push and some jawing, ND clearly waved Kastelic over, challenging him.
Kastelic accepted and dropped his gloves.
Where's the extra penalty? - Tomahawk
nd was in the fight, the refs were taking him to the box. yes jawing but that's not a penalty. i would say the whole following him to the penalty box and then dropping his gloves to engage as the ref was holding onto ND. just a roughing.
after the fight he pushed nd and initiated the next event
Yes, don't understand why it took all season for Torts to place the Flyers best defenseman on the PP .. its a no brainer. - jd250
he now has 18 point and is a minus 1. all points coming the second half of the season. that was my reference to you being correct. the boom from the point...glad he is shooting more.
Bill, was that the right call on ND? Even if they rationalize it and say they wanted to get control of the game, how the hell do they not give an extra to the Sens, I mean he stalked ND and broke the NHL fight code - wcorvette
Was fine with the calls on ND -- two fighting majors (vs. Watson, vs. Kastelic) plus the game misconduct but Kastelic deserved an instigator for chasing after ND, automatic 10-minute misconduct , fighting major, and the game misconduct for a secondary altercation.
That would have given Philly a two minute power play.

ND issued the challenge. Kastelic answered the bell. They engaged at the same time, despite the ref being between them. It's weird that a fight happened after a fight, but there was no instigator/roughing called for a reason.

Except they were man handled. Did you miss York getting run thru the boards and Farabee getting his ass beat in a fight? Deslauriers didn't stop those incidents from happening, nor did he stop Konency getting hit into the boards and suffering a significant injury that's kept him out over a month.
