So then you would agree that playing 1000 games can be done by some player who only deserves to play 9 minutes a night, correct?
I'm not arguing the value of Brad May...simply pointing out that playing 1000 games, in and of itself, is not a basis for a player's abilities. - jmatchett383
I agree with the second point. |

If there were 10 mins left, I think the Pens lose this game. Flyers might run out of time. Still wouldn't be surprised if they tie it. |

Definitely hard to play 1,000 games when you’re playing 9 minutes a night. - j.boyd919
Well my point was usually you exchange the bottom six players for younger guys and their careers end. It’s impressive he’s stayed in the league that long. Way more impressive than a talented guy sticking around. But you like being butt hurt. |

Yeah definitely wasn’t a passenger with his 1 assist in 18 games. Such an astute student of the game. He wasn’t a passenger. He just sucked ass. - j.boyd919
I mean I remember waiting for Anaheims 4th lines first shift because he would lay someone out his first shift every game. But nothing beats Raffl Torres when Edmonton went to the finals. Dude was an absolute animal. |

Then again, I'm biased against Mr. Head Snap. Love Crosby, despise Letang. - jmatchett383
Its not about ability, its a major accomplishment and one that only 381 players in the entire history of the NHL have done since 1917. Stammer will reach this major milestone this coming week as well. |

Mario is probably the greatest "what if" in NHL history. In my all-time top-6, in order (excluding goalies), I go:
1. Orr
2. Gretzky (Brent, of course)
3. Lemieux
4. Brad May Howe
5. Jagr
6. Crosby
7-10 are a mix of Lidstrom, Bourque, Beliveau, Ovechkin.
That being said, a healthy Mario probably moves into #2 if not #1, although catching Gretzky's points total would be pretty impossible. He was definitely the most athletically gifted player of all time (Lindros would be second, in his prime and when healthy). No one could do the things he did before or since him, and it's unlikely anyone ever will again. Sadly, his health has to be taken into account, similarly to the would-be all time goal leader Mike Bossy. |

Lindros is definitely one of the biggest what ifs of all time in the league for me. Watching him when I was young was insane. He was f'n insane. Never ever played an 82 game season.
I'm not going to get into the ranking list of all times again...its opinions...however I will say that I do agree with the players you have listed on it and its insane that 3 of them are Penguins. Ridiculous embarrassment of riches. |

He's in the mix. Definitely the most underrated player ever. Probably would have won a few Art Ross Trophies if he wasn't so concerned with his defense. Basically Datsyuk but better in all areas. I THINK he's the only player to win the Selke and Hart in the same season. |

I'm not sure about Ovi. He'll end up as the all-time goal leader for sure. And that's obviously not a bad thing for him. But the other guys on the list could beat you any number of ways; if Ovi's not scoring goals, he's going to be largely ineffective. Of course, stopping him from scoring is much easier said than done, but that's true of the others as well. Which players in the top-6 I listed would you put him ahead of? |
