At this point, I'm not sure I want them making the playoffs. Pretty good chance they'll get humiliated.
- madmike71

I really dont want them to either. For two reasons 1) Because we need to ensure changes are made. I could see the Penguins make the playoffs, barely lose to the Hurricanes or Bruins, and FSG decide they are on the right path and Hextall stays. Missing the playoffs is the only way they truly ensure everyone is fired. 2) I am tired of the useless streaks for the Penguins/Steelers. Making the playoffs 16 straight years is cool, but it doesnt mean much. I dont want a repeat of the Red Wings streak where they spent the last chunk of years sucking and not being close to competing in the playoffs.

Bringing back the same goalie tandem, giving Desmith a raise, then doing nothing at the deadline… that has been glaring issue #1. Even when we play well, the goalie blows it.
- buckster2342

Yes, I didnt even count that but no doubt him doubling and tripling down on the same goalie tandem that's come up short multiple years now is criminal within itself.

Anyone else have any value?

It’s going to be funny what “milestones” the Pittsburgh hockey entertainment group can come up with over the next few years.

Well....I guess at least a fellow Newfoundlander got a hatty in the game...

...

Back in January the Pens and red hot Devils had a very close, and evenly fought, battle that the Devils took in OT 2-1. Last night looked nothing like that hahaha

Look at what the Caps did. They knew mid season they were a non contender this year and set themselves up to retool in the off season. Hextall even (frank)ed that up for the Pens. The revamping of the defense has been a miss. Resigning Kap, giving Carter term, Granlund (LOL). Hextall is a joke and the next GM coming in, if there will even be one, is going to have a huge mess to clean up.

They came up with the 1000 games milestone only 387 players have ever accomplished?....perhaps they shouldn't celebrate Sid's 1500th point when he becomes only the 15th player in history to do it....

He’s not wrong though. Nhl teams in general celebrate some stupid poop. The Lightning would do poop for the 100, 200, 300, etc games. It’s a bunch of silly nonsense lol celebrate the big milestones not the ones that aren’t even milestones.

Yeah none of those are 1000 games played or 1500 points though. Pens social media made mention of Rusts 500th game but there was no milestone night for it that Im aware of hahaha and he was only referring to the Pens celebrating milestones...

And MAF will be in town Thursday too. Interesting to see if he starts.

I’m happy to see him still have success and being productive.

That clearly wasn't the Pens best effort but I think that's what we'd be watching come playoffs.

This team really needs a shift in mindset/playstyle to be competitive against faster teams, which is pretty much every team. Even then, I don't think it matters much.

They looked completely cooked and had so many bad choices. What was the final odd man rush count? Just some horrific pinches and bad reads.

Sully wants the D to pinch even when there is 0 support against a much faster team.

I like Malkin, Crosby and Letang just like I like Fleury. I'd be happy to cheer them on as they play for contenders vs watching them play sub .500 hockey for the next few years and miss the playoffs

My point is it’s not even a hockey team anymore. It’s just the celebrate Sid Geno and Letang group. How does no one react to the hit on Dumo? Pretty soon it’s going to be Sid 567 pp point night. I have no idea how many pp points Sid has. Just an example.

Its like you're reaching for something that isnt there regarding the Pens....their milestone nights have been legit...unless there's ones I missed that I'm not aware of.

The Islanders are a hockey team to you though, right? You're always getting hard ons for them around here and for years now. I mean, they're almost in the exact same position as the Pens while dropping important games to even lesser competition than the Pens lost to last night haha. Go over to their message board...they all think they've been pathetic lately, that they're barely showing up for games with the season on the line. Your hate for your supposed favorite team has no bounds.

Pretty much agree with this. I have no problem getting assets for them. Especially watching them limp to the end like this. Last night was humiliating and there's been too many similar nights the last month or two.

I'd still try one more year. Get a new GM and coach. Get some fresh eyes on this roster and the brand of hockey they're attempting to play. Hextall really handcuffed them, but maybe a new GM can work some magic. Highly doubtful, but give it a shot.

We used to have a cat that would hunt down mice and just play with them before killing them. He'd let them scurry around and chase them like a toy. That's what last night looked like. Jersey toyed with them all night.

Sullivan has gone down the path of so many coaches. Refuses to adapt his brand of play for the roster he has.

100%. The kids on Jersey were having their way with them. On the flip, one of the only kids on our team was playing well and only got 3 mins in the 1st period.

In a game like last night where is the line blending? Try to spark something!

Sid with Rak and Zuck?
Geno with Jake and Rust?
DOC mixed in on the top line after a PK?

If we do actually limp in and there's an need/opportunity to mix lines Sully will claim the playoffs is no time to be mixing it up lol.

It’s not there yet. You’re mistaking my whole point. Pretty soon there won’t be 1000 games to celebrate and the team will be absolute poop. It will be interesting to see what milestone nights they throw together because it’s no longer a hockey team competing for each other. It’s an entertainment group. Oh the Islanders wouldn’t let that hit slide, and they own the pens so im not sure what that has to do with anything.

You look at teams like Boston or Tampa and how everyone on the team has a fighting spirit. It’s a don’t (frank) with us attitude. It just helps keep the competitive spirit alive.

This is called reaching.

They own the Pens? Pens are 11-7-2 vs them the past three seasons including playoffs...0-3-1 this season but thats never your narrative when discussing this very subject...its always been they've always owned the Pens haha

Oilers with three 100 point players this season....thats crazy stuff. I could see them outscoring their way to the finals, goaltending be damned haha.
