Great example. Guy was the top scorer for the same team that Michkov is currently signed to and he had no problem leaving once his contract expired there.

In terms of history, what you're saying is 100% correct. Just have to keep in mind that things could be drastically different in the world in a year or two.

Are you sure you're watching film of Point pre-draft? Because he definitely didn't turn a corner until he started working with Barb Underhill on his skating.

Benson is way ahead of where Point was pre-draft. Not saying he'll become the better player or anything... but there's a reason why he's in the conversation at 5OA and Point was a 3rd-round pick.

I didn't say he would, I say there was a chance he would. Remember, once a player like Michkov, with the all the questions around him, starts falling it can go on for a while. Yes its highly unlikely but teams may know something we don't about the availablility of Russian players with all the problems going on.
- jd250

Yes you did.

he really is our heads rent free, he has to be paid by hockey buzz to say stuff that gets a response.

I'm definitely guilty of giving his hot takes too much attention.

It's a trap I need to not fall into.

It's simply pure entertainment. Every single day as sure as the sun will come up.

Fantilli is my pick. I like his size and shoot first mentality. I also loved the way he played at the WJCs this year, seemed like a threat every time he eas on the ice, and plays Flyers hockey too, loves to hit people.
- jd250

I thought Fantilli was practically invisible in the WJC's until the final game. And even then he wasnt all that noticeable IMO. Agree to disagree there.

Curious- did you watch the PSU-Mich tournament game and see that goal Fantilli scored from a tight angle ? It was like he found space where there was not an opening..I would love to see the ping pong balls or however Bettman decides this put Fantilli in the Flyers reach.
- RajaAmpat

Yes I did. Ive been trying to watch as many of the games as I can.

Interesting things going on down in the sunshine state. The Panthers are trying to make the playoffs and their 10 million dollar goalie (Bob) is picking splinters from his arse while Alex Lyon is leading them to the promised land! Can't make this stuff up!

Did anyone figure out why the Cates goal didn’t count?

LOL. Bobrovsky has not been benched. He has been dealing with an illness and has not been able to play.

Yeah, the folks in Toronto still hate the Flyers because they eliminated them in game 6 of the 2004 playoffs (second round) in overtime in their barn. That's the last year that the Laffs actually won a playoff series. The goal should have counted. Cates swung with his hand, but missed the puck.

Thanks for ruining my story bro! I actually didn't know what the deal was. I just saw that Lyon has won their last 4 games and had a stellar performance last night. I don't like Bob anyway, so I'm sticking to the story cause I was hoping it to be the case. LOL!

The only thing I can figure is that they must have ruled that it hit in off of his glove before he reached out to try and bat it in. I'm just grasping here. It just seems like a clear cut missed call even with video review.

Michkov has not played one professional game in the AHL yet, so technically he is not even an AHL player. You may think he has the skill to be one, but how many Russian players have we seen go really high in the draft and turn out to be nothing? More than their share. I will withhold my judgement until I see him actually playing for an NHL team, which as of now may never happen.

Am I mistaken or did I see that fantilli was also on the 4th line of the WJC at one point?
I thought that with all of his hype that he had coming that it had to be a mistake for him to be on the 4th line.
Is that concerning to anyone? On the 4th line and still didn't put up the points that you'd expect a top 2 draft pick to do?
Am I mistaken?

Alexis Gendron now 6 goals in the playoffs, over 60 goals total for the season. Yes, QMJHL is an offensive league, but for a 7th rd pick get this young player signed and see what happens when h turns pro.

I think in a few years, we will look back at the Fletcher era and acknowledge his drafts were pretty good. His team building in particular the blue line was absolutely brutal.

I won't even lie.. I've been thinking that lately. He made some solid picks but that also gets credited to the scouts and his assistant GM.
We will see if that trend continues now that he is gone and if it does, then the credit goes to flahr.
But I agree that some of his mid and late round picks have looked to be pretty solid.
I still think he really F'd up taking cutter over jiricek though, but only time will tell now
