I believe the comparison to Kaprizov was more about the time between draft day and when they finally got him into the lineup. Kaprizov had an interview where he said that Fletch/Flahr just kinda "forgot about him" after a few years and Guerin's the one who reestablished contact and got the ball rolling.
Michkov will finish out his contract in 2026 and then cross over. It's assured. Why would Putin and his buddies stop him? Hockey is a source of soft power and Michkov has a chance to be the next Russian hockey superstar. - Tomahawk
Yeah, they forgot about him but it sounds like their efforts to bring him over weren’t
on par with Guerin when they did try. Guerin told Kaprizov he’d get a Russian on the team. When that didn’t work, he said he’d get a specific Russian player who wasn’t NHL worthy but was close to Kaprizov and carry him on the roster. Kaprizov declined saying ‘only if it helps the team.’ That sent a strong message. |

If this was 2014, I would say you are spot on. However, today Putin is increasingly isolated, threatened, and vengeful. These are not human qualities that equate to being a “rational actor” on the world stage. He has consistently shown that human life of any nationality is not his concern. A star hockey player is no different. If he can use Michkov, in his mind, to give the bird to the US and it’s sporting world, I think that he may do so. Count me on the side of not picking him due to the continued instability Putin will bring to the world until he is taken out. - dcflyerfan71
You're assuming that Putin doesn't gain more by allowing Russians to play in the NHL versus keeping them home. The bigger FU to the West is actually letting them play.
Consider the propaganda value of OV one day becoming the #1 goal scorer of all time (and doing it in the nation's capital). Of Shesterkin winning the Vezina. Nich, Vasy, Serg and Kuch being major contributors to championship teams.
Consider how happy the Kremlin must be that Provy set off a cultural firestorm standing up for conservative Russian orthodox family values... opening up a new front in their ongoing efforts to divide Americans and cause chaos.
And Russian hockey players have been banned from many EU pro leagues and all IIHF events. The NHL still allowing Russians to play has been a political win for Putin. |

I didn't refute his point. I stated that a very good team can have high blocked shot totals. Multiple things can be true at the same time. |

Of course, but that team would be even better if they controlled the puck more. Really have to look at each team and the factors involved individually. |

I saw a Nolan Patrick reference was less risky then Michkov being Russian today. Nolan with a concussion history and double hernia surgery even before playing in the NHL. Maybe since he was a good Western Canadian boy tbat injury record was not as important as a prospect being Russian today. Jiricek dropped because of knee surgery. Come to think of it he was not a Cansdian boy either. My point is just be wary of media framing. |

Having a relatively easy schedules helps too. They've racked up a 16-3-4 record against the 8 worst teams in the league. A large % of their total schedule has been against the Bedard sweeps contenders. |

Listen Flyers fans let’s put this stupid Mishkov issue to rest once and for all. If he falls to the Flyers and the Flyers pass on him, in three years he’ll be the next greatest player ever. If he falls and the Flyers take him, he will end up being a bust. Maybe sent to Crimea, stuck in the KHL or is the next NoPa. |

And the old committee approach. Maybe I’m too old school but it’s doesn’t say good things about leadership of leadership needs committees to make a decision. |

In fairness, a successful process for hiring/identifying talent can translate to many different industries. But, I will agree, the optics aren't great. |

Well, got to remember the current climate. I would expect minority candidates to be added to the leaked candidates. Hockey media will have no issue with Billy King being involved in the search. He's an outsider of the hockey world, but he is the right outsider. It's just the way it is today. |

Did you read the article? He’s a senior partner at a company that consults businesses on hiring executives. He’s not a candidate for the position. All the talk of the Flyers being stuck in the dark ages Im surprised people here aren’t more positive about them taking a more modern approach |

I did read the article. I know what is role will be in the search. Is his company the best possible consulting company to hire executives? Possibly.
I would just be curious how that process played out that Billy King's company was determined to be the best. |

Hilferty is apparently really well connected in Philly. My guess is that he knows King or someone at his company. He has a pretty impressive resume. He was on the Board of the Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation. |

If I'm not mistaken, they used the same modern approach to hiring the coach. That got them Tortorella. Not exactly modern.
