Confident thing to say without knowing who your new boss is going to be.
The longer the sale drags on, the more likely things will stay status quo purely for logistics. However, seeing as the Sens have very few picks of value in this year's draft, it's not totally unreasonable to make changes this summer.
I wonder why the sale is taking so long? - Gord_Wilson_2.0
Yeah Dorion clearly got a vote of confidence somewhere - one would think only the selected ownership group could give him that green light, which means the preferred bidder/buyer has been identified. No mention of Smith - I still don't think he's safe. If he is still around, the ice is thin. Finally we are at the point where I don't think another losing start sees him keep his job.
Also, Holden informed he's not coming back.

Pretty sure Smith is on more solid footing than Dorion. I assume Dorion and Smith come as a pair. If one goes, they both go. No highly regarded coach would sign on not knowing how long Dorion will stay in job beyond the beginning of next season.

The Penguins have relieved President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke, General Manager Ron Hextall, and Assistant General Manager, Chris Pryor of their duties, it was announced today by Fenway Sports Group.
This is how it works when you have a recent history of ownership change. I expect the entire caste of characters in Ottawa get continued through all of next year. If they succeed (playoffs +) they might get a chance to continue beyond next year. If they fail, new ownership will sweep the entire group out the door starting with Dorion.
Penguins notice is interesting in that the front office have been swept out. But coach is not part of the house cleaning. The coach is the responsibility of the new GM. |

Smith says he was in the room and Dorion made no proclamation he would return. Smith says they hope to be back. Feel this team is headed in the right direction.

Don't see how this validates your previous assertion that Smith is on 'more solid footing' than Dorion. He's obviously not, given what's been said the past few days. I think if Dorion had full agency over the reins, he'd give Smith another kick at the can - he likes him and has said on multiple occasions that Smith hasn't had the talent to win through the rebuild... but I don't think they're a package deal. We only have 3 very late picks this draft, so keeping Dorion around isn't just to run the table - clearly there's some endorsement behind the scenes we aren't privy to. |

Defence is finally a position of significant strength for the team. Sanderson is pure gold and Kleven should be a solid contributor. |

Sorry I was trying to highlight 2 different takes on the same thing. Brent Wallace posted that Dorion had said he was coming back. Garrioch posted Smith as saying Dorion had not said he was coming back...just hoping they would be back.
My assumption that Dorion is on shakier ground is because it will be a first consideration of new ownership (coming soon). If they decide to replace Dorion, the new incoming GM would make a decision on the coach (like Pittsburgh today).

Bummer about the business of sports.
I like Holden. Seems like a great guy.
I hope he retires here and stays in the community.

I would think so. Most folks don't realize that there are not many teams with enough cap to create a high demand market. Almost every contending team is trying to figure out how to keep their own players. I think there is a good number (around the Norris AAV) that can work in a long term deal. |

Thanks...found it. Not the worst news if they can flip the situations into a power forward to take some of the load off of Brady.

I think whatever Brady wants, Brady gets. Pretty sure Brady would reflect a larger consensus amoung most of the players. |

so the sens players never want to win a cup, don't want to make the playoffs? Smith is the worst coach in the NHL by far and would easily make this years Boston team a bottom 5 team. |

Ottawa finished 20th in the league. Boston's roster has qulity depth through all positions. I'd have to believe they would have made the playoffs even with DJ coaching them. |
