It would be nice to make the playoffs but tbh what chance do they have against Boston.
Also I’m not sure if anyone here remembers 94 but it was more embarrassing making the playoffs than missing |

Well you know what the say about the playoffs
"if you can't beat a non-playoff team with their stars missing and playing down a man, you're 64% more likely to beat a historically-good team" |

Such a brutal loss. It’s like there is a disconnect between the coaches and players and ownership and Lou. There was a lack of urgency before the Bo trade and even after the trade. Something seriously wrong with this team. |

Canes lost so they will be motivated to beat the panthers and pens need to lose one game (doubtful) so isles have a chance - Upstate_isles
If you’re The Canes I think you want to beat Florida and help the Islanders get in. Also Canes may need to win for 1st place in the division. Florida is on a roll and heating up and could be scary in the PO’s. The Islanders not so much.
I hope they make the PO’s but if they don’t it’s on them.
I’m not convinced Lane and staff are the answer. That said it’s on the players as well and you have to think changes are a coming. Lou, if still here ( which I think he will ) had shown this group loyalty the last couple years and they let him down. Again changes are a coming and needed. |

Tampa had 62 wins in 2019 which was the season wins record then.
They were swept by Columbus in the 1st round.
Tampa was winning the Cup that year as well.

They did catch a few breaks last night. With the caines losing and if the devils can win the caines will need to win to guarantee first |

Yes so The Canes vs Cats game can be a meaningful game for sure. Which is good because after lasts night’s debacle we need help now. |

I don't really think anyone should have expected them to struggle against a Caps team missing its best player and 5 total regulars AND playing one guy short from the hop. Last night's loss was entirely unacceptable on every level. |

I don’t expect them to lose Wednesday but they have disappointed in the past.
If my memory serve me correctly the year they sneaked in because of the shoot out win against the devils the night before a very bad Montreal team beat the leafs for it to happen. It’s not crazy to think these teams with nothing to play for thrive to knock out a potential playoff team. |

We kept hearing how the players really liked each other and many times this year we have not seen them sticking up for each other. There has been very little leadership among the players or coaches. |

Totally agree. Posted that a couple weeks ago. Team playing loose with nothing to lose usually surprise teams playing to get in.
That said last night they were totally not ready to play.
To be honest with 4 games left I thought if they went 3W and 1L they would get in. |

That was what it looked like to me, and why it's frustrating. Like I said when they no-showed against Carolina...it's one thing if Carolina (a very good team) or even a depleted Washington team just really was on its game, played lights-out hockey, and beat the Isles at their best. In a league that's this competitive, that can always happen even with a team you "should" beat.
But Washington didn't really look particularly good to me last night. They weren't all over the Isles; they weren't attacking in unstoppable waves or defending with great gap control. It really seemed, from the middle of the first period on, that it was kind of there for the Isles if they could just pull their heads out of their arses and connect on a few well-executed plays. But instead they were always a half-step off...breakout passes into skates when there was no real pressure on them, misreads in the offensive zone on who was supposed to be where, and just overall sloppiness to their game. |

I’m more optimistic today than I was last night but I think the most frustrating thing for me is they are so close. I almost rather they lost to Washington last week and won last nights game. |

When Pelech coughed up that puck right to Dylan Strome who was all by himself for the first goal I knew we were in for a long night. |

At this point there just seems to be a lack of fire with this team and I have to put that on both the staff and vet leaders. It's not just about Barry being gone either, because they looked a lot like this last year.
There was just NO energy to their game last night. It's happened over and over against teams they should roll through. It's a total lack of responsiveness. They don't consistently stand up for eachother and they don't seem to stand up for themselves.
They should have been scared into a adrenaline-fueled frenzy after Washington's first goal last night. Instead they slept for 55 minutes.
They just don't deserve to make it, quite honestly |

The team gives their best effort, and they lose you live with it and especially with the Islanders not being the most talented team. Last night game was not the team's best by far. We have seen this way too often even going back to Barry. The miss the playoffs again and it really takes away from the two long playoffs runs. |

Really hard to argue this. I think this is just a younger, faster, talented type league and the Islanders and lacking in these areas. It's like the team gave everything they had during the two playoff runs and never really recovered and were able to improve on those performances. You need to constantly improve the roster and the Islanders just have not done it. |

It's like they expected the Caps to just roll over because of their situation. You'd think they'dve figured out by now that they can't just throw their sticks on the ice and get a win against a lesser team. |

It really did seem like that Pete. Islanders are not good enough to take any team lightly.
