Agreed, i think we're gonna get Carolinas best game Tuesday. If Vitek plays like that, we aren't winning. Hopefully the game off allows Schmid to reset and Ruff actually goes back to him. - vlongo4419
It’s not gonna matter who’s in net. The Rags made Schmid look like better than he is, due to NY’s disgustingly horrible track record against backup goalies.
NJ has two 1B goalies right now, we need to fix that this summer if we want to make a real run at the Cup next year.
Like Jack said, we’re playing with house money now. Even a Carolina sweep in the 2nd round would’ve still meant a massive success for NJ ultimately, given that NO ONE last summer thought we’d even sniff a wild card spot. There’s literally no bad outcome for this team right now. This season is a HUGE win no matter what happens this playoffs. |

I think having the expectations of Schmid being great is not reasonable, of course but he did play well against the Rangers. The Rangers just aren't a volume team like the Canes. He was under constant pressure the first two games which wasn't case in game 3. I think on home ice we did a good job of getting more favorable matchups and it showed.
Even then, Schmid did save more than expected which you can't say for Vanecek. You have to put your best players on the ice and let their game speak for themselves. |

I mean, it absolutely matters who is in net. Vanecek hasn't looked good at any point in these playoffs so far, both in starts and relief appearances. We probably lose in 4 or 5 against the Rags if the switch wasnt made. Schmid has had multiple *very* good games. Even with his two poor starts this series, he's still saved +2.3 goals above expected. Coming into the series, he was the 2nd best goalie in the 1st round, only behind Shesterkin. He flat out gives this team the best chance to win right now. Gotta hope the game off and a few extra days off allow him to reset, and just roll with him.
We could put him him and just lose the next 2 games, go down in 5, but I'd rather go down with the better performing goalie instead of forcing the clearly struggling goalie in and hoping something changes. |

Strange to be draft lottery day and not hoping/praying the Devils get lucky *again* and move up. Hoping Bedard stays out of the Metro! |

I'm guessing Chicago will win it because it's the worst place he can go to seeing how they deserve it the least and how horrible everybody in that organization is. |

The Devils have added the following players to the roster for the remainder of the playoffs:
Forwards - Tyce Thompson, Graeme Clarke, Brian Halonen, Alex Holtz, and Nolan Foote
Defense - Simon Nemec and Topias Vilen
Goalie - Nico Daws |

Lines in practice today:
Palat-Nico-Bratt
Timo-Jack-Mercer
Haula-McLeod-Tatar
Wood-Lazar-Bastian
Siegs-Dougie
Luke-Sevo
Smith-Marino
Bahl-Graves
Vanecek worked his own net. Unfortunate. |

I do appreciate Ruff moving up McLeod just so we can fit more bad players on the fourth line. |

Wonder what injury Bratt is playing through. He’s been invisible most of these playoffs especially this round.. in a contract year. Guy is barely worth 7.5 right now. |

Canes making a few adjustments in practice.
Brady Skjei missing from practice (could be an illness that's been going through the Canes' room)
Calvin de Haan in his spot. Antti Raanta in the starter's net.
Mackenzie MacEachern in Jesse Puljujarvi's spot. |

Was a fun game to be at! I was a little disappointed in the 12 cent rally towels they handed out. Thought they would give the glow bracelets or wands after spending $400 per ticket.
Not sure if the TV broadcast showed it.... but Jack Hughes was in two skirmishes.
I like that he stuck up for himself. Haula was outmatched.... was wishing Wood or McCloud or Severson would lay out Aho.
Fun game! Fans were loud! |

Is Raanta an upgrade to Freddy or is it a 1a / 1b situation like in NJ?

He had 2pts last game. That whole line has been horrible up to last game. Can’t single Bratt out for that. |

Despite his lack of production, prior to last night, he seems to be pressing a bit and looking uncomfortable carrying/shooting the puck.
Hopefully last night gets the top 6 the confidence they need moving forward. |

Kind of a rotation thing. Both have been pretty meh all season long. Kochetkov actually had the best numbers of all three but that was a pretty tough spot to throw him into yesterday. |

I don't really think it matters who is in net for Carolina but Andersen did have a rough night so putting Raanta in makes a lot of sense especially if he's healthy now. |

On the Devils first 3 goals they got two lucky bounces off of Canes sticks and one brazenly awful goal allowed by Andersen.
Everything snowballed from there. |

Doesn't really matter how much you lose by anyway in that kind of game. Will be interesting to see how Rod adjusts strategically to contain Devils top end talent in a road game. Most difficult part of this series is that Canes will actually coach their team and make changes unlike the Rangers. |

Yep it shouldn't matter who's in net. They don't have a Shesterkin. If we can actually play our game and generate chances, we're going to score goals. Thats easier said than done against a team as defensively stout and well-coached as the Canes though, especially when its in their building and they control matchups. In regards to goaltending, i'm way more worried about our own goaltending than who they have in net lol |
