Did they just say a Justin Braun’s father is coaching the Flyers tonight? - Dkos
Looks like Kanye West. I guess he became political correct again. |

The Hextall haters crack me up. His stint in Pittsburgh is irrelevant to his time with the Flyers.
Overall Hextall was a decent GM for the Flyers that had the correct approach and dug them out of the ginormous hole they were in when he took over. He made the initial blunder by not stripping it to the studs (not that he was allowed to), and ultimately was done dirty by the country club and feckless Dave Scott.
Case closed. Move on. |

Hextall failed to build any type of adequate supporting cast, countless mistakes year after year, and the outlook going forward is even worse. He blew their last chance at being competitive, even if they got in they would have been dismantled quickly. The defense is this man is beyond pathetic by yourself and others in this board - ClaudeFather
You're so desperate you don't even realize your own ridiculousness. Last chance at being competitive. Did I miss the retirement announcements of Crosby, Malkin, Letang and Guentzel?

Dave Scott and the country club would've never let him strip it to the studs even if he wanted to.

Torts by far has done the best coaching job of any coach in the NHL this season. He may not be a candidate for the Jack Adams award based on its definition, but he deserves best coach this year IMO. - jd250

Hextall failed to beat the Blackhawks I guess. - MJL
Of course that is on the players. Hexy never picked a direction for that team. Go for it, or sell. He picked the middle. And that's how they ended up on the outside looking in. |

I do agree that it’s not the easiest position for him to be in. But virtually every move he did make outside of the big signings (I’ll even include rakell and rust in them. Rust was average this year but that’s not a deal people were opposed to in real time) was awful at the time, no hindsight needed. Hell, I’ll even excuse the carter one because you totally could explain that one at the time and in a vacuum no that doesn’t sink the team. But everything else, woof.
His best moves were cleaning up his own mistakes. I’m not granting credit for that.
Like I said, this isn’t some oh if only stupid hextall did X or Y then they are a cup team. That’s simply not reality. But it’s not hard to see that this should have been a playoff team but for his incompetence.
(Yes, beat the last two bottom feeders and they’re a playoff team too. That’s on the players. Both can be true.). But they should have never been on the fringe like they were. - stayinthefnnet
Look at the losing streaks that team had? They had to beat Chicago and couldn't. None of that is due to incompetence by Hextall.

The person who brings a lot of the elements to the roster does in fact have some culpability in the teams performance. Im not sure how you wholly separate the two.
This isn’t to pat every player on the back for a stellar job. There’s a lot to be said for hey you have one game, against a bad team, and win. I’ll throw that at the players feet.
That the roster was so egregiously sagged in a lot of components, it’s not unfair to throw at hextalls |

This I agree with. Which is why I think it’s unfair to evaluate him simultaneously by both the pens job and flyers job. You really can’t. Two different things entirely

Of course Hextall's role can't be completely removed. You also can't remove the situation. They had to bring back Malkin and Letang. He got that done. You have to have the assets and the cap space to make moves. He didn't have it. It was always going to be about how far the top players could take them. It's between a rock and a hard spot. There weren't moves that were going to elevate them to contender status. The failure to make the playoffs is on the players. |

Do you think Granlund and Carter helped or are going to help them this year and next? How did kasperi kapanen do? Who he lucked out in someone taking the contract. The D core is atrocious. You can’t handle the truth Cliff |

You're entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts. That this year is the last chance for the Pens to be competitive may be your opinion. However, that is certainly not a fact. |

I saw an amazing stat that this was the first time 87 and 71 each played a full 82 games. Not only did they both play a full season, they were both productive and yet they’ll miss the playoffs. Truly a failure by the coaching staff and the GM. |

Frost and TK are turning out to be a deadly duo. I hope to see them reunited next year.
Who do you think would make the perfect third man to compliment that line?
