I like Provorov. I really wanted the Flyers to draft him at #7 & was thrilled when NJ took Zacha. Watched the guy a ton in juniors. He looks nothing like the player I thought he'd become, so he either forgot how to play hockey from his rookie year until now, or something else happened. Got going to speculate what it was, but the reality is that he has the most trade value, so he's gotta go. |

Sure looked like he was busting his ass in OT of that meaningless final game of the season. - Dkos

Last year's Colorado team had several top end players (Makar, MacKinnon, Kadri, Landeskog, Rantanan and Toews) and good depth, but they also didn't have the best goalie either. There is not just one way to build a championship team. For example, I believe a team can win a cup without spending $10M on a defenseman, but they can do it with a great goalie, 6 good defenseman and a disciplined defensive system. One thing I would agree is a neccessity in today's game is forward speed and top end skill. Colorado surely had it last year, as does Tampa; the Flyers don't. However the Flyers are developing good forward depth and I project next season the Flyers should score about 50 more goals than they did this season (given Couts and Cam will be back and Foerster will play the entire season) and they will give up about 20 less goals (since they will have the puck more). The Flyers are set depth and scoring wise with their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lines but they lack a true top line. TK has proven this year he can be a top line RW. Gauthier I believe will be here in 2025 and be their top line LW, so it really comes down to getting a top line center. That is why I think Briere wants to be aggressive and get up into the top 3 or 4, so he can get that player. Leo Carlsson is their target if the Flyers don't luck into the top 2 picks. So now project this forward group in 2 years if the FLyers get Carlsson:
TK - Carlsson - Gauthier
Tippet - Couts - Farabee
Foerster - Frost - Brink
Lycksell - Desnoyers - Cates
Deslauriers and Atkinson in there for depth somewhere, but you can see the potential here. Pick up a couple of FAs along the way to sure up the defense, Hart in his prime. This team can do some damage. - jd250
The odds of the Flyers trading up into the top 3 are remote. It's also foolish to think that a player like Carlsson is going to jump right into a #1 center role. It could take years for him to reach that level in the NHL.
Having elite level defenseman who carry and drive play is a must in today's NHL. Without that, you don't have much of a chance. You need more than just 6 good defenseman. You drastically underestimate the role that top elite puck moving defenseman play in offense. It's one of the biggest reasons why the Flyers are a poor offensive team. |

Embarrassing take. Why can't you just admit you were wrong about him. I so far seem to be wrong about Frost, I can admit that. Why can't you give Risto any credit? He was the Flyers best defenseman this year, and the numbers back that up! - jd250
How about instead of replying with empty rhetoric, you prove that I'm wrong?
Provide for me the numbers that show that Ristolainen was the Flyers best defenseman. Why didn't he win the Barry Ashbee award? |

I don’t know about fake rage. Not sure what that even means. I’m sure people were genuinely upset. There were also people who were weirdly super excited and happy about. It was just silly internet overreaction. People get worked up for a minute. At this point does anyone take it seriously. - Dkos
There were people on this board calling out Provorov. The same people on this board who are jerks to other every day posters. So you’re telling me you don’t care about people you communicate with daily about sports talk but suddenly care when one player chooses not to support gay pride sweaters? Either you have heart enough to show you care about others or you don’t. It’s like being a great guy on Christmas but being a dirtbag for all the other days of the year. It doesn’t make sense to me. |

I feel Provorov has gotten a raw deal here by being asked to be the number 1 guy at age 19 and getting much support. JvR I feel like he’s gotten a raw deal. He should have been the net front presence on every starting power play. I think if we don’t improve the defense or the overall structure of the team, Carter Hart will be the next guy who sees a raw deal in Philly. Can we stop ruining players, please? |

He didn't get worse, he just never improved from where he was as a rookie. |

He definitely got worse from his first few years. Down the stretch, Provorov was a complete mess in his own end. He needs a change of scenery. |

Ivan Provorov’s second season is much, much improved from his rookie season though. So I don’t know how you can say this. Flyers fans never turned on Provorov until after Niskanen suddenly retired. 2019-20 with Nisk was one of his better seasons.
I think we need a reach a point and realize that a player can be good but he might not be good here. No matter how good a player might be, they’ll never be able to overcome how bad this situation is. We’ve seen plenty of player move on and become successful. In fact, too many. |

The Provorov and rainbow sweater thing has always been a no non-issue. In fact entire teams followed suit. It’s fans with fake rage who are the true problem. - SuperSchennBros
This! We should support the freedom of any player to make a personal decision. It's not our right to judge. |
