I'd like to congratulate you guys on re-hiring Ron Hextall as GM. I think he'll be a great asset to your organization.

I do not get the rush to trade Hart- a young reliable goalie that this fan base had been praying for for years. Now, folks want to trade him for questionable assets and rely on other goalies.
I especially, don't understand how from my statement about Fedotov only his age came to play. he has not played or practice competitively for a year.

- missingmike

From my perspective, it's not about wanting to trade Hart. Rather it's about speculating whom the Flyers might trade.

he also said he answered the question wrong
- corduroy

Or misunderstood to intent of the question and how his answer would be interpreted. (If you are talking about your first quote.) He did later clarify, I think, in the interview I posted.

My last name is not Tortorella.

It's all mostly speculation. If you don't know the answer to that then how do you know he is being held accountable?

Making assumptions that because a goalie becomes established earlier than others around his age that his “peak” will be earlier or that his prime will be shorter is illogical. Ersson and Fedotov are not established and are around the same age. The conversation should be about contract, trade value, experience vs. inexperience and not about being beyond a “peak” compared to a “peak” of unknowns of similar age.

Personally, it seems unlikely that the Flyers will be offered enough in trade for Hart to make it worth it to lose the goaltending stability they have currently. We’ll see.

- NC Flyers Fan

Hart potentially being past his peak when the team turns the corner, definitely should be part of the conversation when talking about a potential for a trade,

I understand that part. It’s fair to say that they might trade a lot of guys, some that are young and could alternatively be part of the future, like TK or Hart.

I have no problem with him observing from above in the meaningless games. Actually, trying to see a bigger picture from the different vantage point and communicate your observations to your boss in real time is work.

These games have had the same significance as preseason games, and I believe, the coaches often step away from the bench in the preseason.

Torts is far from perfect, and he is very temporary here. I am not opposed to critiquing him, I am opposed to a binary treatment of him on this board, especially, when we do not have all of the facts in our possession.

That's why they have video of the games.

Go ahead if you want but alternatively saying the Flyers can turn to unproven goalies about the same age instead is hypocrisy. Ersson may be past his peak when the Flyers turn the corner….

Hextall fired! Along with Burke and Chris Pryor.
- Flybynight88

I’d be fine with Burke as President to sort out a lot of the behind the scenes stuff in the front office. Player development, scouting, analytics etc.

Following this logic there is no need to go to the games, or theater- everything is on TV now.

LOL. It's not hypocrisy. You're ignoring the entirety of the conversation. Ersson may be also past his peak but will he be signed to the high level contract that Hart will likely need to be signed to? If you want to look at only one factor, ignore the rest and call it hypocrisy, go ahead. Agree to disagree.

Friedman reporting - PIT cleared house. I wonder if Hilferty's search committee wants Burke as a candidate - just a joke.
- Trox88

If true, Pitt should hire Fletcher to complete the job of totally ruining that franchise. Couldn't happen to a better team... just sayin

The logic I'm applying is that he can do both. The job of coaching the team for which he was hired for and is being paid a lot of money to do. While also reviewing the video of the game and discussing it with the GM.

I don't but if we're going to include that he is, as if it is a fact. Then why can't we also discuss why he is being held accountable? Only then do we need to be Tortorella to discuss that aspect?

I agree that Provy does have high value. He is a top pair LHD dman who plays every game and pretty much every shift. I do think he can get a 1st + a prospect. I would expect him to be rejuvenated on his new team and have a good season.

I think the idea is that Hart's next contract will be $$$ and the team will be in a rebuilding state for the majority of it. By the time the team is ready to turn a corner he's probably gonna be past his peak.

Not to mention that he's probably not conducive to maximizing draft position during the next little while.

Plus Ersson seems decent and Fedotov could be in the mix starting next season.

- Tomahawk

I guess so. But if you do trade him it better be for a boatload and I have no confidence of that. It’ll be a salary dump in view of the next contract.

In my opinion, you don't trade Hart just to trade him. The biggest reason you do look to trade him is for the value of the return that you might get.

When it comes to Ron Hextall, I’m indifferent. I do think he was put in an impossible situation with the Penguins because as stated by a few around here, that team was on going as far as the aging Crosby, Malkin and Letang were going to take them. That doesn’t mean add Jeff Carter though. That Hextall blend of knowing how to clear space but not knowing what to do with that space seems to sink him.

As for the mistakes in Philadelphia, I feel like the hate only truly irrupted when Bob Clarke made his comments about the 2017 draft. You guys know I’m a Brayden Schenn fan, I never liked the trade, the deal took too long to work in our favor. When it comes to Nolan Patrick, I was a supporter right to the end. I believed he could be the next Eric Staal. He had the size, physical ability, release on his shot and vision but somehow couldn’t put it all together. Mostly due to well documented injuries. It’s a shame. With this said though, if you tell me 6 years later that you never wanted Patrick, I think you’re a lair. Everyone had Nolan Patrick going first or second in 2017.

I think it’s also important to note that I wouldn’t put it past Clarke to be a bully and a lair. I remember him his treatment of Eric Lindros like it was yesterday. Basically calling him out as weak because he didn’t play with a concussion. Clarke has always had his own agenda. We should trust his word now?
