The fact is there is zero chance Hart gets traded, he is a franchise goalie and they are very hard to come by. How many true franchise goalies are there in this league? Think about it. Also according to reports Briere is going to be aggressive in this draft and trade up into the top 3 or 4 as I have posted many times that he should. He knows this team is in much better shape than people on here think they are, and if they get that franchise top center they are right back in business with Gauthier coming also. You don’t ever trade a franchise goalie when you are closer than people think.

LOL. It's not hypocrisy. You're ignoring the entirety of the conversation. Ersson may be also past his peak but will he be signed to the high level contract that Hart will likely need to be signed to? If you want to look at only one factor, ignore the rest and call it hypocrisy, go ahead. Agree to disagree.

I highly doubt it, I think Hextall is done as a GM, should go back to scouting goalie prospects. Another failure for Hexy and in record time too! He completely screwed up this team starting with his debacle at the expansion draft. However I’m sure it’s not his fault. Let the excuse making commence!

The logic I'm applying is that he can do both. The job of coaching the team for which he was hired for and is being paid a lot of money to do. While also reviewing the video of the game and discussing it with the GM.

In my opinion, you don't trade Hart just to trade him. The biggest reason you do look to trade him is for the value of the return that you might get.

And Minnesota is paying almost 13 million to 2 players who do not play for them team, and then pay $14 million to them the next two years.

Plus it will be tough to give new more expensive contracts to the 13 free agents.

It is impressive that even with that immense amount of wasted cap space, guerin still put a more competitive team on the ice than the Flyers did.

I think the idea is that Hart's next contract will be $$$ and the team will be in a rebuilding state for the majority of it. By the time the team is ready to turn a corner he's probably gonna be past his peak.

Not to mention that having a good goalie around is not conducive to maximizing draft position during the next little while.

Plus Ersson seems decent and Fedotov could be in the mix starting next season.

Spot on! Goalies are in their prime at 28 years old, Hart still has a few years to get there and if Briere does what I think he will do the Flyers will in fact be ready when Hart is in prime.

Trade value of goalies usually isn't measured in boatloads. Maybe a high 1st like Cory Schneider went for would be the absolute ceiling.

I would disagree wholeheartedly that the reason for his doing so was to grow and gain experience for his assistants. In my opinion, his reason is strictly ego driven as he sees himself as more than just the head coach. He sees himself as the savior of this team and his true objective is to exert influence over the future direction of this team. It's a frightening scenario.
