I actually closely studied a video of him blowing an opponent away on a breakaway rush one time.
It's really neat. He did something that I've never noticed anyone else do before. Maybe others do it and I just never caught it, but...
McDavid does crossovers to accelerate - even when skating in a straight line. Just small movements left and right of the centerline. I've tried it (when I can consciously remember to alter my natural skating motion) and it's unreal how much faster it propels you.
