Think it's too early to say that. Right now, I would take Stutzle #1 for sure (which I had years ago) then it's between Byfield, Sanderson, and Raymond - AlfieisKing
Agreed.
Sanderson at #5 was an exceptionally good pick considering there was vastly diverging viewpoints on the order of picks 5 through 13.

Yeah man. I think Stutzle and Sanderson's progressions was VERY favourable for Sens. If the peaked early, Stutzle could've gone to NYR or LAK and then Sanderson maybe DET to #3 if Sens took byfield or laf
No offence to French Canadians but Daigle PTSD makes me not want to take a QJMHL star UNLESS he is a BIG center or D-man |

I've never understood the whole Diagle thing. How can you not find out the guy actually hates hockey? There must have been some interview that showed he was at least indifferent in regard to hockey. |

Daigle had a better rookie season than Stutzle. He had enormous potential. I think the Sens did a horrific job in managing his development.

Alexandre Daigle had almost 2.6 points per game in his final year in the Q. Sidney Crosby had 2.7 points per game in his final year. I understand what you are saying, but it was hard to pass on him --- I also hate the fact that since it is Ottawa they factor in the French Canadian aspect
I actually have been more upset with the U.S. Born players Ottawa has selected over the past decade. It really pisses me off. Curtis Lazar was Canadian and a good pick (horribly developed IMO on the 4th line with Neil) but since then:
2015 - Colin White (Travis Konecny, Sebastian Aho right there)
2016 - Logan Brown (Charlie McAvoy, Jakob Chychrun right there)
2018 - Brady Tkachuk (excellent pick)
2020 - Tyler Boucher (Cole Sillinger right there) |

I think it's the Forsberg signing that led to Gus leaving. For some reason Dorion thinks a backup gets paid 2.3M. He did the same with Condon, gave him way too much money for one good showing. Dorion had assessed before this season that Forsberg was a backup, so he needed a starter. Smith never gave Gus the chance to settle in, so we didn't know what we had a starter right in front of us. You're absolutely right of course - in hindsight, we're looking at a trade that never should have happened. |

I remember when they got him from Pittsburgh it was potentially considered a steal as he was considered being a top goalie one day. Just shows what actual good defence and coaching can do for a goalie. |

that is the whole story for the last 5-6 years with this crap coach, never gave prospects a chance, Stu only became a 90 point #1 Center because of injury |

Playoffs prove you need bigger guys.
The sports net panelists are the worst. Its pretty much unwatchable. The cbc/ sn feed is horrible. I may finally agree defund.
Its a shame tsn isn't doing the broadcasts. They are far superior. And they have the best NHL intro theme song ever. They recognized the value of a good hockey presentation. |

I think the product is changed for the playoffs. A lot more casual hockey fans watch the playoffs and I think they dumb down the dialogue to fit a less knowledgable audience. I flip over to the basketball between periods.

I've seen too many regular season games by sn to agree. At any time watching Sportsnet ,90% of the between period show is like having a lobotomy preformed.
Solid advice to switch channels.... the shopping channel,20 minute commercial on how amazing a straw is....would be better |

Will the Sens need to lose a significant salary in order to sign DeBrincat. They have about $16m in cap space to sign DeBrincat, Pinto, Hamonic and Brannstrom plus a backup goalie assuming they start Forsburg as the #1. They have about $3.5m in dead cap space (which ends next year).
Very tight squeeze, but doable. On the other hand, trading DeBrincat with a right return could be the better option.

Options? - AlfieisKing
Connor Brown is UFA.
Love Tom Wilson (one year left on contract)
Connor Brown + Tom Wilson = Same $000 for DeBrincat
Best option for me remains Pierre Luc Dubois. He fills a hole that would make Sens a top contender for next year.
Remember, return of Norris will help to offset loss of scoring if DeBrincat is moved. |

Connor Brown would be a difficult sell - unless he took a 1 or 2 year deal at a LOW cap hit - which I don't know if he would do. Mathieu Joseph is the 3rd line winger at the price tag Brown would be around. I also question his ability to produce at the level needed but he's still younger than I thought.
Pierre Luc Dubois is a solid option - I just don't know if Jets do that - seems like they value size a lot.
I was thinking Troy Terry, Travis Konecny, Jesper Bratt, Jake DeBrusk..... also Tyler Bertuzzi is UFA. So is Michael Bunting (I really like this option, Kadri and Hyman thrived after leaving Toronto)

I think if you go to the original article for this thread and look at the top of the page you will see Sens writer with the word "contact" in the heading group. Tap the "contact" and KHawk's message board should come up for you.
Good luck |

Early round playoff results sometimes signal those teams intending to make off season changes. Winnipeg Jets will be looking to make changes.
Next team to wonder about may be the Rangers. They looked badly over matched against New Jersey. Love the game of fleet footed Devils. Rangers' top lines look old and shockingly slow. If Rangers lose next game we will see big changes. |

Just PM “khawk” or “Sens Writer”. He did all the leg work when I wrote some blogs in April. |

Ryan Reynolds and the Remington Group led by real estate mogul Christopher Bratty are reportedly set to go all-in with their final bid for the Ottawa Senators.
Postmedia's Bruce Garrioch reports that the group "is prepared to bid more than $1 billion to buy the Senators and the Canadian Tire Centre."

It would appear the Sens will have more than one max bid. It is now in the realm of who can make the best case in partnering with NHL, NCC, the city and the team's fan base.
But remember, the group making the most noise about the bidding is almost always the guys who are behind . The group with the inside track and leading the bid process will seldom make any noise about how the negotiations are proceeding.
