To play Devil's advocate... no, not everyone in the world has had to deal with a family member dying, especially people his age. And, from all accounts, he was SUPER close with his dad, and had to watch him slowly go downhill. I lost my dad when I was a bit younger than him, but wasn't as close with him... it had its impact, but my younger sister was really close with him and it ruined her world.

So, he's grieving, and I can understand how he could view hockey as something that kept him away from his dad and that might have been a source of resentment over the past what, 11 months?

Yes, it seems Brock has had a lot of excuses over the years. Did you read the article, or just the pull quote?

I think a few of us have. It's tough but you move on and not use it as an excuse.

I lost both my mom and dad in my 30s, 3 years apart, I still miss them.

Panthers score after the whistle and they are going to count it.

Considering that this league is partnered with gambling, how they (frank) does this poop fly? NHL is the most fake professional league there is. It lays somewhere between real sports and WWF/WWE or what ever fake wrestling is called now.

I hate the Bruins but seeing just how much this league cheats in front of millions of watching eyes and cares little of how bad it looks just disgusts me.

There is no corruption. Refs are on the up and up. Nothing to see.

Oilers get robbed?
- Bettmanhatesus

Oilers are putting themselves in a bad position. Again, the game should have never reached OT. After the second McDavid goal, Drai took that dumb penalty and the game was tied. Calls may be questionable but one has to know the Oilers aren't going to get any favours from Gary's boys. Now in another 'must win' situation having to win 3/4 down the stretch here. Woodcroft needs to sit that club down and get them on the right track mentally. Don't let the games get to OT as that's when Gary's boys are just looking for the excuse. Be better.

lol I stay away from PO Hockey especially first round too unpredictable. Woodbine fires up today and I've been doing good at Gulfstream Park on the pick 4's. Plus Kentucky Derby day May 6th and the simulcast pools will be massive. Expect a 12 mil Pick 6 at Gulfstream with mandatory payouts.
I just have my PO Hockey pools to go on.

It's not something you technically ever get over. When my Mom went in 2009 she had Neuropathy so it was almost a blessing She was suffering so bad. Dad went in Oct 2020 and it was unexpected he was in pretty good health. Just goes to show how fragile it all is and we need to enjoy every moment. How we react over time depends on a great many things.

Meh, he's grieving. People grieve differently and at different times. Not holding that against a 25/26 year old that he felt distanced from him job after his dad/mentor died in the few months previous.

If this was 5 years down the line, sure... but we'll find out next year if anything has changed, for the Canucks or some other team he's on.

I was 25 when my Dad died, I get it. I was back at work a week later, it was hard. My work reviews weren't brilliant that year following but I never used it as an excuse, I blamed the cocaine & booze.

I read it. So his excuse for being a lazy (frank) in the off-season and coming to work unprepared was due to his father’s illness? I think using his father’s illness/death as an excuse to the media is a cop out. Just say “I wasn’t good enough this season, this team needs me to be my best to be successful. I need to refocus and up my game.”

Own it. And to suggest people don’t understand the difficulty he’s had to face is just self-centred nonsense.

Not to sound heartless but this is the stupidest excuse I’ve heard from this kid (and he’s full of excuses)…

“It's hard for people to understand the aftereffects of what I went through. Unless you really go through this, you can’t understand what it's like dealing with a (dying) family member.”

Unless you were born in a test tube, every single person in the (frank)ing world has had to deal with a family member dying. What the (frank) is he talking about?

“It’s hard for people to understand”? Hey Brock, everyone understands you stupid twit. You ain’t unique. Now go put on your big boy pants and stop with the excuses.

- bloatedmosquito

Lol gold. He is literally a stupid twit. Always has been. He should shut the (frank) up and either quit or get help privately

Hoglander with the game winner tonight as Abby takes a 2-0 lead in games.

4-2 the score tonight.

I notice that Brock didn’t stop playing in the Da Beauty League summer after summer while his father got more and more ill. Playing in the Da Beauty League is not an adequate summer training program. It’s more about fun. So I guess he wasn’t so grief-stricken to stop having fun.

Well, I mean... that's basically what Boeser is going/went through?

Not great work review in the year following his dad's death (it's been 11 months)... and – just spitballing – maybe your dad's death wasn't the reason for the poor performance, but were the increased drugs/booze use a result of it? If so.... you're just swapping excuses

Hopefully his agent is successful getting his ass moved out of town, one less pillow biter. Take that money to sign Dumba to a reasonable deal or someone else to protect the rest of the b1tches.

He doesn't want to be traded anymore (though that doesn't mean he won't be)... and please don't sign Dumba. That will be a horrible contract.

Going through a dying parent is different. Especially when you/they are still young. The longer it drags on, the harder it can get as well.
