Not joining the sky is falling crowd but so far Hronek has not been the right piece.

Until he is the right piece he isn't. He certainly can be the right piece but to date he has done nothing to improve the club YET.

- VANTEL

Yes very true đź‘Ť I believe in Hronek.

I think it is a deep top five.

After that I’ve a tier of 8-10.
Next tier is very large.

Overall more picks in the top 40ish the better.

You're missing the point. It's not about how many great prospects there are. It's about having an earlier pick at the one you want.

Say they have a guy ranked as their #5 prospect, and he slides to 8. Canucks have that pick? No. Oh good, he slides to 9. Canucks have that pick? No. Oh, he slides to 10. Canucks have that pick? No. Oops, team at 10 takes him.

Now they're left going further down their draft board.

So yes, there is a reason to have an earlier pick. It doesn't mean you're necessarily going to get a "steal" of a pick between 8 and 11, but it does mean you'll have a better chance at choosing a guy who is higher up your draft board – and, if you believe in your scouts/evaluations, a better player in the long term.

- NewYorkNuck

It also means that if you're willing to trade the pick it potentially has more value to whoever you're moving it to.

You’ve pretty much described Michkov.

Precursor to the draft is what trades PA can make beforehand if any. Imo C has many prospects to choose from that we need. RHD not so much as in true top pairing but top 4. A few wingers are interesting that could be a C Barlow & Woods.

In order to be a successful drafter you need picks. Rutherford has hit on a few, missed on many and also made some good and bad trades with the picks.

I do believe anything is on the table, and with the draft lottery still to come it's clearly still wide open. I do believe it's also a great year to trade down for the Canucks, if another team is high on a player available that we aren't at that position.

Regardless, you must have some players in mind at 13 that can be future franchise cornerstones in case the trade options at the time aren't worth moving the pick for.

Rutherford may be 72 but Alvin isn't even 50 yet.

Being a Canuck fan I have given up on the lottery.

I have hope that they are going to fix a lot of things this summer. Drafting aside Rutherford is not an idle man.

I was not happy with the first two thirds of their tenure, but I give them credit for being active and making a few smaller moves. I do think they will fix things though.

I am the wrong person to talk to about the draft. I see them building a team now and hope they don't make bad decisions. Everything they have done to date, to me has been about fixing it now.

I doubt Michkov drops. When you draft ifth you expect that pick to be ready in 2 or 3 years and that fits his time frame.

All teams find a way to get rid or hide cap. That is their job. Castonguay can do that with her eyes closed.

I think you look at the team you want and find a way to make it happen. We are talking three lower salaries with the three I mentioned in the post.

- VANTEL

Dumping cap for a neutral return is one strat then use that cap to reallocate for need. Gnarly for a 2nd.
Eg Garland out Gavrikov in

We can ride out Myers til the TDL or let him walk & use that cap for a key add.

Boeser could also be moved as well & let the wingers leftover carry the freight. Kuz Miky Beau Pod etc

Yeah I think they are trading this pick as well, either trade it to get a player they want or trade it to help move a bad contract to free up cap space to use in UFA.

What’s selfish is being a fan of a sports team and being a butt hurt crybaby because a player who doesn’t even know you exists says that he had a hard time dealing with his dads death. He doesn’t deal with this happening the same as you did so you chastise him? Man that is such a selfish way of thinking - making someone else’s sadness about you and how you handled it, yikes buds

Edit: I forgot - Hi, Marwood (or Aaron)

Been a very good game of big boy hockey.
