We still sucked through the neutral zone. - aecliptic
First period was great. Had to expect a push and they handled it well. They didn’t give a PP SHOT ON GOAL, that’s astounding. They didn’t play their best game which is comforting. They can be better I think. Devils too. I’d expect a better game from them Thursday |

My initial thoughts:
Good:
- Defense: structured defensively, got pucks out of the zone, good job on Hughes for the most part
- Igor: stellar game. Should’ve had the shutout but is clearly on his game
- Mika: Great game even though held off scoreboard. Made a number of really strong defensive plays on Hughes
Bad:
- Forecheck: could not sustain offensive pressure. My guess is we got crushed in Tom’s charts
- Kid line: had some good shifts but largely thought they were outplayed by Meier line
- Forwards: relates to forecheck, but forwards really forced defense and Igor to bail them out all game
Taking game 1 on the road is huge however it comes. Really fun game tonight. Going forward really need to control the puck more and get back on our cycle. NJ is quick in transition so need to limit turnovers and be physical.
Let’s go Rangers!! On to game 2!
Edit: Should add that Mikkola had an excellent game! His speed and length matches up well against this devils team. Hopefully he keeps it up - SkjeiStadium
Pretty fair assessment. This is the thing about the the charts, the rangers don’t win that way. They don’t win by having the puck for 40 minutes. They win like the Eagles in the NFL do for example, quick strike offense, before you know it you’re down 2 TDs. In this case, 2 goals. This has been a bone all season on this board, but no one realizes that’s this teams identity. The goalie is supposed to bail them out anyway. This game once it was 2-0, maybe 3-0, was never in doubt imo. Very stress free game (for the most part). Good point on Mika, he may have to take a back seat a bit offensively and concentrate on stopping Hughes as a main priority
I’d expect the Devils to open up more next game which could lead to more offense for us. |

I was at work for the first period but caught most of the 2nd and 3rd. It just kills me that we have such a talented team yet we struggle so much to transition in and out of the neutral zone when teams start to add a some pressure. |

Playoffs are all about just finding a way to win. I can care less if the analytics say we should have lost. They don’t award cups that way |

Solid assessment. Good overall road game. Some areas to work on, but the D helped bail out the O and the PK was stalwart. We said special teams would be a huge factor. Tonight, they were

Seemed fine postgame
Maybe it’s because it was a lot of special teams and pp2 didn’t play much and he doesn’t pk? |
