Nope, I wouldn't care if they waived him.
- Aetherial

I always knew Rielly had defensive warts, and accepted that no player is perfect. He was a damn good #2 forced to play with a lot of bums. But I've seen enough of him to see he makes good partners bad and it's on himself more than anyone. Having a bad stretch is forgivable but its been an emtire season, and now 1/1 in the playoffs.

There's is nobody on the team I've disliked more this season than #44. Nobody.

And keep in mind the Leafs were #1 in most players played on the team. 47 players I think suited up, and I've hated Rielly the most. That's wild. But well earned imo.

The bad news-

Leafs lost

The good news-

Literally no chance the officiating can ever be as bad as this game was called.

"Cross-checking" "Slashing" "Not knocking the goalie into the net" "The puck completely crossed the line" "Elbowing major" won't/can't be called again.

Knies will play next game because Parros hates the Leafs.

Holl should never touch the ice as a Maple Leafs again.

The reffing in the first didn’t particularly bother me. It was a different story in the second. That’s separate from my feelings about the team. I just think it was really that much of an issue until it became an issue.

Teams that win game 1 win what? 65% of series. Couple that with the Leafs recent history and losing home ice advantage. I can see where the cynicism comes from

Liked ROR’s line and McCabe mostly. That’s about it. Samsonov created all kinds of problems because he couldn’t handle rebounds. A bit of a comeback fell apart after a few bad calls by refs and a bad penalty by Bunting.

I just hate when people sit there and say "stop blaming the refs", but sometimes it's obvious. Yes, the team can suck but so can the refs.

This isn't binary.

- Monkeypunk

Sure the refs can suck.
But every game, every year its the same thing.

The cherry on top is using Rielly on the PP. Terrible decision making, terrible shot. Usually kills the play with a pee-wee flick into the goalies chest or a giveaway. A purely offensive Dman with no shot and questionable decision making leaves you with...a high priced pretty skater

Samsonov a huge concern. He was overplaying all night, like it was a soccer net. Not compact and and smooth at all. Bellmares first goal for example went in the middle of the net. Samsonov totally overplayed that. Just played like a spaz all night.

Agreed. There's another stupid hill I will die on: The Leafs PP could be 1st in the league but if Mo is on the blueline, I don't like it.

Doesn't really change anything. Stats are what they are. And Leafs are in their own stratosphere of failure

He’s can make great, athletic saves but creates problems for himself. I prefer Woll’s game but not sure if he can or should take the net.

I saw 3 other plays like that with no calls.

I get the calls but I don’t like when they call some and let other go. That is the game management that is frustrating.

Spend 85 million dollars on payroll and have a 200k former has been dictate games.

Makes sense

- bryant

I get that and feel the same, but you can't give them a reason. Reaching in on a guy and pulling on his shoulder is as obvious a call as they come. They pretty much never let it slide when it's our players, we all know this. Don't do it.

I'm honestly not trying to pick at you.

You try and be and objective - sometimes to a frustrating fault! - so that "shot" was more for people who feel that Leaf fans feel hard done by.

I feel often we are. I watch a lot of games. Edmonton and Toronto get the short end of the stick a lot. To put it in perspective, teams that I will cheer for if Toronto isn't playing: Edmonton, Pittsburgh and Winnipeg; I like Jersey, Carolina, Colorado and even LA. So this isn't just bias, which I obviously do have, but there is objective evidence that shows some teams have it worse than others.

TBay in 6.
Shanahan and Dubas fired.
Matthews traded before July 1.

- .HOHO.

I’m with ya here, except I don’t see the Leafs taking it to six………5 maybe. Puleez, it’s long past time for Dubas and Keefe to go. Shoor it’s only game one but it’s always the same and this is nothing new.

Wedgie has assured me that this game means nothing. Regardless of the fact that home teams losing game one have a rather uninspiring track record of success. And that's not even including the "Leaf" factor

All I’m commenting on is the injuries

We either get no Hedman or injured back Hedman

Concussed Cernak or healthy Cernak

Essymont got destroyed and is concussed.

Leafs need to 100% take advantage of this.

Here's the good news

Leafs were the better 5v5 team most of the night. Stay away from the bullpoop and keep the game at 5v5 ...same as last year.

Thursday is guaranteed win night.
