I'm trying to not get to angry ranty today, because too many Leafs fans are doing it, and we lost one franking game, and this is why we can't have nice things, but here goes:
I can't understand how Keefe has allowed Bunting to continue to be a liability out there, throughout the second half of the regular season.
I coach at the lowest level of hockey, and even I know that you can't allow a player like that to continue to be selfish, taking stupid penalties that hurt the team.
If a guy on my (now sadly defunct) men's beer league team did that, in a playoff game, we would kick him off the team. |

@jakebeleafs
It is only luck/happenstance that there is a history of sexual exploitation between mccauleys family and Sheldon Keefe. Similarly it is only happenstance (nothing to see here) that the Leafs are 0-8 with McCauley reffing playoff games
(17-17 without McCauley calling them)
seem like a normal league

There's a better angle - they showed it last night in the intermission.
Not saying it was in, but there's a much better angle out there somewhere.
I suspect it was in, just by the way both Tampa players immediately celebrated. - Atomic Wedgie
It's not so much can you see it in. It was called goal on the ice. It has to be disproven on replay. It's like trying to prove a negative. The assumption was that it was a good goal... All replay was doing was trying to prove it wasn't in.. since they couldn't do that.. Good goal... doesn't matter if anyone can or cannot see it in.

Im upset with cush.
I believe hes at the game....with those shoes.
This cannot happen again. - Fakepartofme
I am backreading all this from last night, seeing a lot of commentary that I expected would have been posted by the people who posted it as this is a pretty predictable group (the regulars) and of course the trolls are going to troll.
Don't be upset with me, you should have been upset FOR me because I was livid after the first period. They looked overwhelmed, lost and just a total cluster f*ck defensively. It felt like the puck was in the Leafs end almost the entire period - Leafs shots were from way out and 1 and done, no sustained pressure and they were playing scared / not to lose vs to win.
As much as they were lightly booed off the ice at the end of the first the energy level of the fans in the concourse my brother and I spoke to after that first ranged from pure rage, to disbelief to "it's one period, even if they lose it's a long series" - so alot of what was in here. I wil say unlike other times I've been at games even after going down 2 nothing the fans were still really into it and urging the team on. The atmosphere was electric before puck drop, the crowd was a loud as I have ever experienced.
The 2nd period as the Leafs started to crawl back the building lit up it was amazing.
The Leafs made a game of it up until.....well you guys know. The Bunting pulling a Kadri really hurt, the goal that I still don't think was in the net and even it if was I don't get how it's not goalie interference also hurt a lot.
Goalie note - Sammy seemed nervous and his rebound control was terrible.
By the time it was out of reach I wanted someone on the Leafs to go set the tone for game 2 and I don't feel like that happened at all.
Frustrating to say the least but I'm over it, game 1 is done and on to game 2. I just think about the leafs stomping Tampa in game 1 last year and how little it really meant after the game and am hoping that disaster last night was the wake up call the Leafs needed and they play like we have seen they are capable of because that team last night almost top to bottom was not that team - not even close.

Keefe needs to step up and do what needs to be done.
Bunting, even after his likely suspension, can't just come back into the lineup and Holl can never touch the ice as a Leaf ever again. |

So your conclusive evidence is that Corey Perry was celebrating? The guy known to dive and sell calls constantly?
As the Detroit coach said, the league wants more goals so if it can go that way they will let it.
In my opinion, you couldn't see white between the puck and the line and therefore shouldn't have been a goal. Even in the better shot during intermission it wasn't over the line by like a quarter inch. |

Super normal thing that I'm sure at least 2 other teams went through just last night.
It's actually (frank)ing laughable. |

Which is insane.
The replay did a great job of also showing that his pad was clearly knocked into the net, yet after review they still got that wrong, too. |

I think the puck was in what I didn't like is that the reason it went in was that the TB player speared the pad and pushed it back.. That allowed the space to the puck to get in.. That should not be allowed. |

Oh good call! (frank) Cush and his cool sneakers. - Aaron_85
Go eat a cat Alf.
Side note - I promise not to wear the sneakers again this round guys. I also have my jersey in the wash as I type this to wash that terrible game Juju off of it.
I had also been sporting a AM34 'stache specifically for the playoffs that was described by my wife as terrible, creepy and also that looked like the type someone who was not allowed within 500Meteres of a school. I shaved the MF off when i got home so fast there was smoke coming off the razor!
And just to add insult to injury last night for me, I worked downtown all day at the office (took the GO train) and met my kid brother to hit the game. He parked at Vaughn and took the TTC downtown to meet me.
We hit the game, left upset and disappointed and got on the TTC. TTC took us 3/4 of the way home only to tell us to GTF off the train as it was now a terminal station because they are doing tunnel work and down to one track northbound so we have to wait for a train on the southbound track to take us north the rest of the way.
We (along with 200 or so people) got to add an extra 35 minutes to our long evening waiting for said train.
This was the 2nd time in 3 days the TTC jammed it to me sans lube. Sunday I went to the Jays game, TTC line 1 shut down from St. Clair West to St Patrick so shuttle bus for all. We were on the shuttle bus for 30 minutes to get to the first station and the best part - the driver calls my buddy over (we were jammed at the front of the overfilled shuttle bus) and asked my friend if he knew where Dupont station was or how to get there. I poop you not.
We got off the bus at Dupont and took an uber to just make it in time to walk into the dome and see the bases loaded with none out in the top of the 1st. Good thing the beer was cold and the sun was warm.

You know I love you Scabby, but I have no franking idea what you are talking about.
That's just a perfect hockey hit. He drives his shoulder/upper arm into the guy's chest.
No head contact.
Certainly no elbow to the head.
It was perfect. - Atomic Wedgie
I think Bunting was expecting a battle for the puck in the corner but the puck went in a different direction than anticipated.
Cirnak was also hunched over when the hit occurred.
DOP is given Bunting 1 game for that legal hit |

We were talking about the McCabe hit, not the Bunting hit.
The Bunting hit was a 100% intentional elbow to the head. |

Agreed.
Even if McCauley calls a good, non-biased game (which he absolutely did not), you'd think the NHL would (should) be smart enough to not let this obvious Elephant in the room even be a thing.
Like, how hard is it to just avoid the clear conflict of interest? McCauley never calling another game against Keefe should be the easiest decision the NHL has ever made. |

Oh well, I know you are against my opinion here but Knies is coming in and I like the Knies payout over Bunting, ZAR and Lafferty so I am happy if he gets suspended. |

The play was nothing like Kadri’s suspension in the Bruins series. Bunting hit him high but Kadri was on a search and destroy. Bunting comes back after the suspension and if they want Knies in ZAR comes out. He played less than 10 minutes last night. |
