I ALMOST threw my remote across the room. Stopped myself and instead threw out a few expletives. Refs should either call it down the middle or put their whistles away. Pick one. They influenced the outcome of the game last night and that should never happen.

I cannot fathom any playoff game being 6 powerplays to none, and then the cherry on top being the missed call in overtime.
I would have broken something in my house - jimbro83
Thing is, the Isles have committed to trying to wear Carolina down physically, which is fine, but the majority of those penalties were obvious stick infractions (Or Matt Martin inexplicably sitting on a guy.)
Refs let nearly everything that wasn't blatant go. Teravainen got his hand broke by a slash and is out indefinitely needing surgery.
Then they let a pretty obvious high-stick go in OT and, yeah, the Isles got jobbed on that one.

The puck went from just inside the blue line to below the opposite side faceoff circle in about a second. Then Fast practically one times the puck high to the opposite direction of the net. Sorokin was technically sound as he moved across the crease then positioned himself to close off the short side. No goalie would move out to challenge the shooter. There was no time to do so. And without benefit of your armchair hind sight, it would be leaving a massive short side gap along the near post. Which you would have inevitably complained about as well if Fast happened to exploit. - jfkst1
As I said, it wasn't a terrible goal by any means but I do think it was stoppable. In most cases, Ilya makes that save |

The takedown of Aho just before the high stick was really bad as well. A complete tackle where the Canes player actually reached out to grab him. The refs clearly were not going to call anything in OT. Still...six to nothing is a bad look when you then allow a high stick infraction that leads to a gwg. |

Canes DID get a penalty called against them that negated half of one of the double minors, but overall yeah.
All around reffing has been abysmal in the playoffs so far.

I don't think anyone has much of an issue with the penalties that were called on the Islanders as they do that the Canes were certainly deserving of more than one penalty over the course of 3+ periods. |

In fairness I don’t watch anything else but I’m not really sure how officiating could be any worse in any other professional sport. These guys make the sport borderline unwatchable at times. I’m not saying they have some vendetta against the islanders but I am saying the officiating just blows league wide. It’s unacceptable to me. - Cptmjl
Yeah, they're brutal. From one game to the next its called differently. Same thing with goal rulings ie goalie interference. There's zero consistency in goalie interference rulings haha. Its crazy..and sh!tty.

I get putting the whistles away in the playoffs especially in OT but when an infraction will clearly lead to a scoring opportunity like that I think you have to make the call. |

Am I right to say the Canes are year in, year out one of the least penalized teams in the league? Thought I heard, or read, that somewhere the past year or two.
This isn't to say they didn't deserve more last night. I was switching between games and watching bits and pieces. Plus when I am watching its not like watching a Pens playoff game. I'm easily distracted and leave the room a lot. So I couldn't give last night's calls, or non calls, much input. |

That one trip with five mins left was a stretch of a call for the playoffs imo. The canes could’ve been called three separate times for that same play but weren’t. That’s not even including the blatant interference calls that weren’t whistled throughout the game. Whatever, it’s the NHL terrible officiating is part of the game. Not sure how much more motivation this team will get from this but that’s the only positive I can take from it. |

Over the past 5 years they're 13th in penalties taken and 22nd in penalties drawn.
So pretty average but more calls go against them than for them.

Nah National broadcasts keep saying they're one of the least penalized teams in the league but it's just flat out not true. |

Personally, I think this will fuel them for both games at UBS, along with an EXTRA rabid and angry crowd. As long as they can hold serve at home, the physicality of the Isles will wear down the canes. Teravainen is done for the series. Tomorrow night should be a helluva game.

I kinda blame Mayfield on that goal. So you didn't get the call. Wait until after the play to whine about it. Not while the other team is heading for your goal in OT in the playoffs. If you read some of the other guys quotes about the play , they are kinda saying the same thing. |

Yeah, the 6-0 was more about the disparity of powerplays. I think in over 45 years of playing I can't ever remember being in a game where one team got that many powerplays versus the other team getting none. You expect missed calls, it happens, but there were some pretty blatant ones along the way that went ignored. Refs are typically aware of large disparity in pp's...
Either way, the Isles definitely earned their six penalties. It's just unfortunate some major ones were ignored the other way during an extremely crucial point |

There's a lot of blame to go around right now but Lee and Horvat have been terribly disappointing, regardless of line matchups. We've excused Bo for his lack of scoring due to his faceoff prowess, but he wasn't even good in that regard last night.
