Yeah. Just not enough money to go around. We had this same discussion last year with Motte and Vatrano. NHL being a cash poor league sucks. |

Devils out-chanced the Rangers 20-7 over the last 40 at 5v5. Idc how good Igor is, that play breaks your way eventually. Keep that up, and keep the game at evens, and you're in a good spot. Another reason to take out the guys that take dumb penalties (Wood).
Devils analytical blogger.
2 conversation points. 1. I see why Mikkola gave Igor the hat. 2. I wouldn't dismiss how great one of the best goalies in the league is. |

Was it really that unbalanced? Again, I think some analytics guys inject some bias at times. What's a chance? How many were high danger? The second period had me squirming but the third was alright, not great but not awful like the second. |

this is one of my biggest gripes with these stats
OF COURSE the team trailing 2-0 after 1 period, at home, in a playoff game, is going to make a push

Aside from Hischier and Hughes I did not see much getting generated that looked threatening. If Igor stays locked in and if the Rangers can be stifling at times again the Devils may be looking at a similar result, maybe not as much going in the net but not giving up much again. |

That's why I include NST snip when I post the 4 charts after every game. It was tilted heavy to the Devils after period 1. Not a gripe, just what they had. NST also have the expected goals, scoring chances and high danger scoring chances. It's a good tool, unbiased too. |

But how many were quality chances? If 20 chances, unscreened from low to moderate danger areas, I am not concerned at all |

Until we know how much the cap will actually rise, almost impressive to have this discussion. Plus one for down the road. I. Addition, Chytil came in slightly less than expected on his new deal. Laf and Miller could be the same. |

Picture the Texas Rangers Sammy Sosa and that is how I'm built. So no worry of extra mass for me, just the perfect amount of bad luck. |

Hope it's enough to add Tarasenko and Motte after Laf and Miller.
I'll worry about that after the Parade. |

Huh? So Devils had 21 shots in the last 40, and 20 of those (95%) are considered chances? Rangers had 13 shots and only 7 are considered chances (54%).
From someone who works with data daily, it can be completely b.s. You can paint any picture you want if you try hard enough.
Edit: I suppose you can get a chance without taking a shot, but is it really? |
