Ok, agree to disagree. What do you think about Sully? - Hockey66
I think he's a good coach, that falls into bad tendencies like all coaches and the best way to mitigate those tendencies is to make the roster decisions for him, by removing the players he's attached to and filling the roster with options. May have lost the room? Seems like the guys like him, but his assistants gotta go, the PP and PK were atrocious this year. |

I made 3 reasonable trades. Rutta as a cap dump. 1st+ for Swayman, Legare+2 picks for Anderson.
Everything else was a UFA - Tatar, Domi, Gudas. You get younger on the 3rd line with Domi and Anderson, both guys that play with an edge. Gudas plays on the 3rd pairing with Frieds, knockin heads and blocking shots. And in Tatar, you have a fantastic 2-way player that can slide up and down the lineup.

If the option is Jarry on a bridge deal or dealing a 1st for Swayman, Im taking Jarry.

Eh, that's where I disagree.
Dude can't stay healthy or on the ice. Time to move on.
That 1st ain't going to be worth a damn for the next 3-4 years, unless you keep it to trade mid-season to bolster the roster.

When Jarry stays healthy for a while he's one of the better goalies in the league IMO...however, the reality is he cant stay healthy for long haha and he takes a long time to get back in form. So overall he's not one of the better goalies in the league because he just cant stay healthy. Also, that post final game interview with him I watched was pretty damning when he was talking about unfixable/untreatable problems he's dealing with...I'm fine with moving on, also fine with keeping at same'ish price if CDS goes for someone better. Fvck a raise and term. No way. |

Tristan “Mr. October” Jarry - Feds91Stammer
He wasn't actually that good in October... Because he just came back from a long layoff haha...November 1st to January 1st Jarry was elite...then he went down in the Winter Classic. |

You get the point. He can’t be relied upon down the stretch. |

This is why corporations frequently move executives around. People get comfortable when they have success and it gets hard to self-evaluate. It's human nature to cut yourself slack when sh!t isn't going well. It's even harder to make tough decisions on personnel with whom you're close. Sullivan's biggest "coaching" move this year was toggling Rust and Rak between the top 2 lines. Everything else was rote.
He should go. He's signed through 2027 I believe, so he wont. |

Which is why, if they are deadset on keeping him, they need to remove those personal attachments to players that struggle and only give him the personnel in which the GM thinks can bolster the team. Take the choice away from him. |

That's the right approach. Like the Moneyball movie. It scares me that Sullivan will probably have more power than the new GM though. I worry about the cozy Boston love-fest Sully has with the owners. He got a 3 year extension that doesn't even kick in until 23-24. |

I don't think that'll be the case, even in the presser I think they said the GM or whoever they hire will come in and evaluate the rest of the personnel.

Whyyyyyy?
As a diehard Pens fan I really dont give much of a sh!t about this...but it would be nice for a majority of the people I love, and care about in this life, to get rewarded for their unwavering loyalties their whole life....plus hockey is like a religion up here haha |

Last summer Sullivan was seen in Boston having dinner, drinks and generally yucking it up with the new owners. After which he got a 3 year extension while still having a full 2 years left on his current deal. When you guarantee a coach 5 more years after disappointing results for the previous 4 years, I'm guessing that coach has a substantial role in how the team is run.
It's not much different with the Steelers.... Mike Tomlin is easily the most powerful person in that organization. He'll never be fired no matter how bad the results. I doubt Sully has the same security, but I'll bet he has little to worry about for at least a couple more years. |

Nah. Handling that workload was a concern going back to his pre draft scouting report. He can be elite for 45 starts. Need a really good backup though. |

Yep, that's why for me too. I saw in play in Erie back when he was on the Otters and was a fan ever since.

Yeah, this is just nuts. They seem too easily swayed, to the point of being pushovers. I mean, Hex can't put his plan on paper and tells him that it's in his head and that's ok with them? Sure, here's the keys to last years of the window and we won't step in until things get REALLY bad and the fans are in open revolt. The trend doesn't inspire confidence. Hopefully the new GM / President will have the unfettered ability to bring in whatever coaches they deem necessary. IMO, Sully's shelf life expired years ago. |

I made a few road trips from Pittsburgh to Erie with my dad and grandfather to watch McDavid play. Good times. He was a man amongst boys. |
