Not sure, but I think this is the first time the Islanders ever beat Carolina in a playoff game. They got swept in that series 4 years ago, and I can't remember them playing them before that. Maybe they played them when they were the Whalers?

Yes indeed. They played that 3rd period with the desperation that’s been missing. Defense was good to bar Dobson’s giveaway. Having Romanov back is huge. We let them skate around us the first 2 periods and Sorokin held us in. Have to have that third period energy the entire game.

And, what a warrior Casey is. Obviously hurt and hitting anything that moves. What a game he had.

That was a textbook third period for what the Isles need to do in this series. They have below average team speed and aren't going to overwhelm anyone with fast rushes. They can however loft some dump-ins, punish Carolina's defense, wear them down and eventually outwork them. While Anders showed some life late, I'd seriously consider adding Palms to the top PP and let him park in front of the net. He has a bit more speed to recover rebounds at this stage.
Gotta give credit to Casey, Palms, Martin and the entire defensive corps. They all stepped up and stood out IMO.

Then there's Ilya, whose only goal against was a self-inflicted wound by our power play. Tough night for Nelly, but you just know he'll come through again.

Overall, the team played good defense in the third and eventually imposed their will

He’s only 22 or 23 and played +/-25 games? He’s gonna be very good at some point I think. Can’t expect him too much fe him
Especially in the playoffs. Lou should have got an insurance vet d man at the deadline. Had the cap.
