Messier on ESPN was saying Tampa wasn't getting calls this evening. I don't think he is biased, him and Chelios were saying the game 1 refereeing was the worst they had ever seen.

I think Tampa got some breaks form the refs, but not too bad, and they let stuff go the other way also.

- Aetherial

They let both teams away with it really. They tried to let the teams duke it out. There's a few calls like to see made but... what bugs me is again tonight whacking Sammy's stick. They just need to call that and cut it out. Some of the garbage stuff should be curbed. Overall it did go both ways.

seems to be great trade with the desired effect for Dubas.

but I still believe his best trade was sending Sandin to Washington - Sandin may become a good defenseman eventually, but he wasn't going to get the requisite ice time in Toronto - clearly illustrated that Dubas is beginning to figure out that sometimes guys like Schenn and McCabe are more impactful that the more "sophisticated" players.

- BorjeFan4Ever

I could not agree more. The Leafs needed the tougher, grittier defensemen. Sandin will be a one dimensional offensive defenseman. The late first rounder will help balance the traded draft picks and keep a pipeline of talent to continue. We were lucky to win this game, but Monday is another day. If Leafs can win game 4, they'll deflate the Lightning. This series is now winnable.

how many concussions did Messier have? Chelios - at least 2 from Wendel alone.

When has a broadcaster ever changed their opinion based on what the network says they should focus on?

and my 91 year old mother knew the officiating was dog shyte in Game 1

That’s a more fair take & not a homers view. 👍

PO hockey is challenges & adversity. Not excuses & blame. How a team overcomes is what it takes.

Not sure I agree. Jeannot didn't get a single penalty. Stamkos starting a totally unprokoved fight with Matthews should have been an automatic ejection, he didn't even get an extra 2. I am curious to see the stat as to how many playoff suspensions the Leafs have vs. the rest of the league over the past 7 seasons.

Don’t forget they’re watching 3 to 4 games at once. So they’re not actually watching a game in entirety.

They have to come up with opinions and calls on the fly so you can take their takes with a. Grain of salt.

That works for game 1 too though right? I mean that take seemed accurate enough.

I personally think the refs make bad calls all the time, but mostly they aren't responsible for the outcomes of games.

Nice to see the team win a game they probably should have lost. Need a few of those for a Cup run.

They never seem to call instigators. Watching Paul and others chase leafs trying to force fights in game 1 and 2 should have been called. Just cut it out but it seems the league wants the animosity and physicality.

I think there were plenty of non calls on both sides today..I also think the Maroon hit on McCabe is probably the worst of the missed calls

If they can get by Tampa, there'll probably be no other team that will use the Goon tactics that Tampa does. It would be just desert to see the Goon squad dispatched in the first round. Boston seems to be getting beaten up by Florida.

On game 4 at home you can expect a veteran cup winning TB team to be ready. Leafs have to match that & more. Deflate I don’t see that. TB doesn’t quit or mail in anything. To win this series Leafs gotta keep amping up their game & put away TB asap.

The suspensions are a different issue though. Yeah it looks bad, a Leafs player got suspended a couple years ago for a hit that was not as bad as Maroon's hit tonight.

unfortunately there are many on here who would have you believe what they hear from Ron McLean and the remainder of the stiffs in Canadian broadcasting.

Leafs won, yes I'm glad. Rielly didn't kill Point - otherwise he would have returned a few minutes - so maybe just maybe Point was "embellishing"?

Kuchawussy head shot on Rielly - not penalized., if Kadri 5 & a game and suspension.

shall I continue?

It's a joke. If there is a blowout against the Bruins or Tampa, the respective coaches seem to feel obligated to send out their respective assassination squads. Playoff hockey my ass.

Missed Stamkos crosscheck and 3rd man in on Rielly. Then starting the secondary fight with Matthews.
