The Jets should move on from Hellebuyck. This isn't the first playoffs where he's only been average. No I'm not blaming him for the goals against, but at the end of the day great goalies are suppose to shut down the other team not give up 13 goals in 3 games. - BWJumper
Average doesn’t cut it so if the opposing goalie is playing above average that game, we know the outcome. That outcome was on display around mid January going forward where a good percentage of the opposing goalies outplayed our goalie. No one can argue that fact.
I hope this doesn’t happen ….. but it’s kind of trending the way of this impending result:
VGK Broissoit / Fleury 2 - Helle 0
McCrimmon 2 - Chevy 0
I hope Helle can even the score and change this narrative but he will have to be better than average.
I am not blaming Helle either, it’s a team game. |

Dubois is a great 2A center, that's as good as it gets for him. A good complimentary piece but not the guy you want to lead the offensive charge. - BWJumper
This I absolutely agree with! Dubois is a nice piece to have on a roster, not necessarily the guy you want to THE MAN. |

I'll blame Helly - if it wasn't for him we would be in the Connor Bedard sweepstakes chase.
It's his fault we're not in the running. - "Grahamzky" |

This goes back to skill set. How many players on this roster can make clean crisp passes. - TheUltimateJet
Not many....sad to say.

Chevy has to make his trades before he gets backed into a corner (a la Trouba, Patrick Kane, etc...).

Yes, so true.
That's why I have been saying that all the pending UFA's and RFA's contracts need to be addresses before the season starts. We don't want to be in a potential playoff position at the trade deadline next season, and then have to deal the players away - or lose them for SFA.
Of course the younger RFA's (under 25) would be an exception.
I don't believe we can try and re-sign any potential UFA's until July 1, but can re-sign looming RFA's (like PLD) right now? Anyone know if this is correct?
I don't think you'll know this team without a program next season - really don't think we have a choice. |

I'd like to see any player movement completed pre-draft if possible. If necessary in some exceptions, perhaps a couple days into free agency; then if teams strike out on FA targets maybe you can make a decent deal. I think by waiting well into the summer, the risk of being stuck and force to run it back shoots up through the roof. Use the 1st couple weeks to see who you're extending, make decisions and start lighting up the phones and start wheeling and dealing. |

I'd also like to know the signing of RFA rules, if the window opens as soon as the season is over? (PLD in particular) |

Pretty sure Dubois could be extended right now if he wanted to sign. |

I think you're right, now that you say it. It may be some weird time, like after January 1st, in final year?

Players can sign extensions at any time during the final year of their current contract. |

Just listening to Jim Toth on CJOB.
They say Helle is 3 saves above average goaltending for this series. Hope he can turn in a good game and extend the series.
Helle is .895 save average for this series. Broissoit is .902 which is nothing to get excited about but sub .9 is not good |

I heard that too, pretty sure what he said though was Helle is three goals below in the 'goals saved above expected' stat.
I'm not really well versed in those goalie fancy stats though so maybe someone who is can help with that. |

Goals saved above expected means that goalies stop pucks that they are not expected to stop. So when it is reported that the goalie is saving what is expected means, they are essentially saying that average goalies would allow those goals to go in. The higher the number the more elite the goalie.
Hope that makes sense. |

So you don't want to be a - in that stat to be good?.. lol
What does it mean if you're -2.8 like Helle is?
Vasilevskiy is -5.1, Brossoit is -0.8, Ullmark is 4.0 and Shesterkin is 4.1 in the playoffs so far.
These stats are really difficult to understand. |

It might be the last time I get to say that this season, hopefully I get to say it again though....
GO JETS GO !!! |

Well there it is, major changes are needed, even if healthy this team just doesn't have the horses to compete with the best of them.
Should be an interesting summer for this organization. |

Loved Bones presser.
“No push back”
“Their better players better than ours”
AND
“Play with some pride”
We know the players who played with pride and we respect what they did but the others have to go.
You have to want to play for this team, your teammates and this city. Bones gets it, he was here for Jets 1.0 and he doesn’t see it in this version of the jets.
A major shakeup is needed and it starts with #firechevy.
Draft, sign and trade for players that want to be here. Period.
Love the Jets and will continue to support them but changes need to occur.
One last thought. Dubois.
Could you have made it anymore obvious that you highlight exactly what I mentioned above. Good luck with your career elsewhere. Just know that everyone now knows that if you don’t like your situation, your play on the ice will reflect how you really feel. Going back to Junior, isn’t this the third team that you have done this with?
Have a great summer everyone! Take care
Jetter

I didn’t even watch the third, don’t even know what the score ended up.
Fleury / Broissoit (backup) 2 - Helle 0
Mcrimmon 2 - Chevy (season off) - 0
Vegas 2 - Wpg 0
Too bad Chipman couldn’t have hired a GM like Mcrimmon. I wonder does it sting that a fellow Manitoban that has stacked his team with MB born players shows you the door twice?
The asset mgmt this year watching Kovecevic getting plucked off waivers only to find a full time roster spot on a “bad” team and trading a 4th for Nemestikov, which was traded for the player that the team lost on waivers must be difficult to swallow. Then get shown the door by MB Mcrimmon / Vegas must sting for the mgmt. But maybe it doesn’t sting, maybe mgmt is too oblivious to actually understand.
This team needs a lot of changes starting at the GM level. |

Helle turns in a fine playoff performance.
17/18 - .922
18/19 - .913
19/20 - .904
20 /22 - .931
22 / 23 - .886
I know it’s a team game and it’s a symptom of a bad team but sub 900 is bad.
Have a good summer everyone, hopefully Chipper gives Chevy every summer off going forward! |
