What is crazy about that is if the kid slips down the draft, it means he can be drafted by a mid pack team like the Pens for example…. or worst by Ottawa and if it turns well may have more negative impact for the Habs than picking him…

Maybe the best is to trade our 7th to something around 12th + a solid prospect and picking the Russian…. It will all depends the kid they are targeting would be available or trade up (both first round picks) for the 2nd or 3rd and pick the guy they dream about…

That draft will be very very interesting…

Question, can the eliminated teams do trades before the lottery?

I don't expect them to overthink this. If they draft him, its because they know he will come here.

Draft another top 6 forward and move on.

If they want to gamble on a kid, they have another pick in the first round for that.

also any team can actually make a trade at any time, the only thing is that the players involved in the trade cannot play in the current playoffs.

I think the 2nd first will be used in a trade….

And I don’t think the Russian will slip that far… But I remember the Habs drafting Caufield 15th… So…

nothing major should happen before the end of the playoffs

they never want to steal the show

+, everyone is waiting for the results of the god damn lottery

funny enough, there is more than one prospect in this draft

they can take a gamble with another prospect. Crazy, eh?

I also think they will trade the other pick instead. So play it safe, pick a guy that should be in your top 6 and call it a god damn day.

I don't think it's about not wanting to steal the show but rather about the lottery like you said. and even if 2 teams that aren't in the playoffs would want to make a trade it isn't really in their best interest since injuries can happen and other trade possibilities may show up once the playoffs are done.
