Yup, it’s the right call to hold off on giving him another game, even another round won’t go over well. That being said the league needs to support their refs and not allow the overblown media of Toronto to control their decisions. - Dozzer
Exactly. So save the grief let him do other series. Round two they shuffle the deck anyways so he can remain in, I'd put him in the west games and bring Sutherland or Kozari East, and roll through to the Cup Finals and see who is in to see there. McCauley isnt penalized and story just dies right there.

Yup, avoid the drama and do just as you suggest.
The media should get real tho and bring up how the leafs loss rate with him as a ref goes back further then when Keefe was coach. But nope, they’d rather push the fictional soap opera that this is.

Lol there’s no personal pain so please don’t waste a concern on me. Im back to the way I used to mod where the negative judgement of others is not something that bugs me. Delete the posts that step too over the line, try not to ban in hopes that is enough to make a poster realize they’re crossing the line, and then give them the day off (not multiple days or weeks) if they try and pick a fight over it.
Some people like me, some don’t care, and others hate me. Sounds like my extended family tbh

I'm not sure, he was pissed he was traded while his wife was pregnant. He may sign again in TO, he's a solid player. - VanHockeyGuy
The Leafs ABSOLUTELY need to prioritize signing Luke Schenn. They should move on from Holl, and even move Conor Timmins if they need to to make it happen.

He keeps players honest, still a decent player. He'll want more than a one year deal for sure, 3?

Definitely. He's been exactly what they needed since joining them.
I'd rather keep the 4th line the way it is as it's working for them - dmnted
Except Bunting has scored almost as many goals as that whole line combined.
Bunting 23 goals
4th Line 29 goals
I think not putting Bunting in is a mistake.
A few reasons.
1. He was a top 6 player all year.
2. He's better than anyone on the 4th line.
3. He has the type of energy needed in the playoffs.
4. Tampa will try to get him back, risking some penalties.
5. Benching him sends a message that the team won't stand behind you.
6. He'd likely be crazy pumped coming back in after 3 game.
He should take ZAR or Lafferty's spot.
And like someone else mentioned, if you need to shuffle him up the lineup for a big goal, you have the opportunity.
I wouldn't classify him as good as Tucker, but he reminds me of him.

So his bias was solidified before the extra fuel of Keefe coaching? That's like triple the juice! 😜

It makes ZERO sense to use him on the fourth line. First of all he hasn't played that role much at all in the last two years. Secondly our fourth line has been ok in the matchup this series. And if you do, it means he lines up right beside Corey Perry. All night. That's like giving the Lightning lighter fuel and a match.
I think Keefe made the right call here. You don't give Tampa anything extra to rally against and use to create emotion.

And pretty sure fanbases complain about any and every ref all the time. I've never heard a fan say 'I hope we get ref x or y, they are fantastic' - Zezel
On the flip side, ive never heard any fan complain about any other ref outside of wes in recent years.

Fine, put him on the 3rd line with ROR and Acciari.
You could also have him on PP2.
Let Kerfoot replace ZAR on the 4th.
And I'd love to see him line up against Perry.
I feel Bunting would still play to the edge, but not go over it.
Like he said, he's faced a lot of adversity to get here. I don't think he'd risk missing more games.

Well he is a diving loser so he deserves it. - Dozzer
I understand you aren't his biggest fan...and that's cool - I'm not a great admirer either.
However, with that said, the treatment his received is ridiculous. Yes he dives - so have lots of other players.. it does seem to die down with other players... and lots of them yap. Case in point Gallagher. For years all he ever did was plough into the goalie... "of course always by accident and never his fault." Does he still reputation calls now... sure on occasion but even the Habs fans admit that he used to do it all the time - and yap afterwards.
He never received what Bunting has.
ditto Marchand - who has proven repeatedly he is much much more dangerous and dirty.
what does the media do in Toronto - blame Bunting - and always let the officials off the hook.
how many of the TOronto media were complaining or even commenting about Maroon's late hit from behind on McCabe - which I believe we can quite accurately say could have turned out much much worse.
not even a review or call with the league... in short different treatment? why?

If I’m being honest i probably would start him on the 4th line too, but I would shorten the bench to almost 3 lines and rotating everyone around. Treat it like game 7 and run Matthews Marner up to 25 mins and try and end it tomorrow.
Then take a few days off between rounds and rest up.

The Boston play with Nosek kills me. That was the exact same play except with intent in the waning moments of the game. Zero attention whatsoever.
