Might be a good stop for Reilly. I heard they are looking for warm bodies to help them reach the cap floor. He looks good in the press box. - dothedougie
He might actually be a top pairing in Chicago. |

Maybe. Not if that korchinski dude plays though.
Solid top 4 guy there though. Could really help them get a high pick in next year's draft. |

I'm still floating on a river in Egypt about the fact that here we are early May and we aren't discussing how last night's game went or what adjustments are going to be made for the next game...
Man, September might as well be a decade away....think I'll drink heavily tonight. |

After game 7 I was hungover for like 3 days. It wasnt great. But you know what they say......You cant drink all day if you dont start early. Got a Bruin's shot glass just for this occasion.
On that note, lets do it again! Cheers to no more playoffs, likely a boring draft (for the bruins) and a long off season. |

I’ve been hungover for 7 years now. Nothing like going 0 for 7 in the draft lotto. |

So if Krecji and Bergeron do not come back (would not blame him at all) should the Bruins be sellers?
Without top-2 Cs their window is basically closed.

No, disagree on the window being closed. Example is look what they did with Bergy and Krejci out of the line up. There is still plenty of talent on this team to make the post season after which, anything can happen. |

So unfortunately the Jacobs family is on record saying that they are a cap team, and they believe the city (projecting from themselves likely) will likely not tolerate a full rebuild. They are going to continue to retool and compete the best they can.
Some of us may want at least a minor rebuild but I dont think it will happen. They have shown they can compete without the two big centers but they are going to have to show that they can do just that, compete.
What is it that people say now, they will "retool on the fly". Business as usual is likely what we are going to see. |

Yes. Hopefully Zacha can slot in 2C as I believe Krejci is absolutely done. It's time for changes with this core. There is something very chokey about them with 2011 being the exception. It's been a great run and a far cry from the dark times of the Joe Thornton era. But it is over. These guys cannot break through as currently constituted.
The Front Office and Ownership did their jobs this year.
Tuukka is gone and he can't be blamed for this anymore.
To me the Chara - Bergeron era is unfortunately defined as "almost but not good enough"
37 is my favorite player, he has been since 77 retired. But it's time to call it a day. It's time to change up this core who simply cannot win when it matters most. |

As much as I wanted (and still want) a full rebuild, it's not going to happen. Ownership will never make that move unless the Bruins become 2006 level bad, where ticket sales and ratings were at record lows.
A rebuild on the fly is absolutely possible if you can throw emotions and loyalty aside and make cold, rational, and the necessary decisions to do so.

We will see. They will have to make some tough decisions this off season. The team wont look the same next year and to you point, that is probably a good thing. I enjoyed the year, but its time to go with a new core that can give it their own shot.
If Bergy does come back, great. Krejci too. But need to move forward under the assumption they are retiring. That leaves Zacha and Coyle as your top 2 centers as of right now.
Reilly is a buyout candidate. Need to make some decisions on what you're doing with Gryz, Zboril, Clifton, Forbort and Carlo. Can probably find some cheaper options during FA (maybe?).I would choose one of bert or hall (bert is my vote). Let there be competitive try out at camp and let the youth show you what they have.
Then there is the goalies. They have a pretty good relationship, might not be the best thing to break that up if you want to compete again. But IDK, dont envy Sweeney's job this off season. |

Bergeron played 78 games and Krejci played 70 games. They played a LOT more than you suggest. Bruins don't have the season they did without those 148 games.
They will not be able to get comparable replacement talent for equivalent Cap hits. They are already up against the ceiling as it is.
Re-tooling on the fly going forward will not work as they won't have players taking team-deals. It only works when you have elite talent on team-friendly deals. Next year Pasta will be making $11M+. Hall and his 36 points will still cost $6M.
There's basically zero chance this team wins the Cup with "re-tooling". Bruins do not have that kind of flexibility.

Was talking specifically about the games missed in the playoffs but even down the stretch the team did fine without them. Not saying they won't be missed but all is not doom and gloom.
I will be surprised if Hall is on the roster next year. And yes, next year is going to be tight but the cap is projected to raise substantially the following year (again, because the covid escrow issue will be behind the league).

If its going to be a retool, then I hope its a deep retool. Lets assume no Bergy or Krejci, they are done.
Swayman, Lindholm, McAvoy, Pasta, Bert, Zacha and Marchand. (Maybe Ullmark for another year depending on circumstances). Keep Lysell, Harrison, Lohrei, Poitras and Merkulov (also insert prospect you like here). Prospect pool isnt deep, so I'm ok with over half of them going elsewhere should they not compete hard enough to make the team.
Spend the next year purging the roster of any name that isnt listed above. I think you can maybe do this and stay competitive if it isnt all done at once. Tough call, but like you said, its time. |
