Trouba just murdered Meier

Directly to the head again

- GreatGigInTheSky

Meier had his head down entering the zone. Contact was made with the head, but it wasn't targeted.

He’s hunched down with his head down

Clean hit

Refs called it right

- Santo_44

Did they somehow change that part? Was the head the first and principal point of contact? He is in a vulnerable position - you don't nail him in the head. It's headed for a billion dollar concussion lawsuit in the future - because they clearly learned nothing from their last loss.

sad.. but also awesome that he continued to play concerts right up to the end.

from a Canadian perspective he's kind of our version of Keith Richards.

RIP Gordon

Ok, so you agree. It was a head shot.

Since he hit him directly to the (frank)ing head.

Totally clean. I thought I saw Meier's spirit leaving his body but it was only his glove in orbit.

Just saw some Boston fan on Reddit thinking they can get Bertuzzi and Orlov to sign for 2.5-3 million on one year deals.

If that was clean, that's probably where to start on concussion issues in hockey. I don't care how the guy led, that was direct to the head and the onus for that kind of hit has to be on the hitter. The hitter is the only who can choose not to hit him square in the head in that scenario.

I'm not a fan of either team, but he wasn't targeting anything. The kid had his head so far down and put it even lower after Trouba commited to the hit. Hard hit, textbook. Keep your head up crossing the blue line.

I swear to God I feel like I'm going crazy in these conversations. If a player turns at the last second or puts their head down at the last second or makes a last second attempt to get out of the way that places themselves in a dangerous position to an impending hit, there's not much the hitter can do about it - but in cases where you can clearly see the number, the guy doesn't know you're there and you nail him, or the guy's head is down because the puck is in his skates, or whatever - you can't hit him in the head. He's not fair game because he lost the puck in his feet. He's fair game to be pasted through the body - not the head.

Yeah that was the requirement in 1993. The game has evolved slightly. Somewhere along the way it changed to don't hit a guy in the head. At least that's how the league has presented it, something to do with endless severe long term head injuries and subsequent billion dollar lawsuits.

That's the thing about this game, someone will always have a moment they forget to look up for half a second. No one wants the game to be about giving someone CTE in that moment except apparently the primitive types who still think it's a keep your head up thing.

Maybe Trouba can spend the summer golfing and thinking about what a twatwaffle he is. 3-0 Jersey.

And no call. Brutal.

Trouba came off the bench and went right at him, made no attempt to not completely destroy the Devils player and no shot he didn’t know the principle point of contact would be the head.

He knew he just doesn’t care.

Trouba is a dirty (frank) who exemplifies the term “predatory hit” and for whatever reason goes Scott free.

I hope Meier is ok but it wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t come back at all in the next round.

Bye Bye Rags.

It's straight up (frank)ing baffling, man.

Like, there's literal video evidence of every square inch of Meier's face squished into Trouba's shoulder before any other part of Trouba touches him. Smashing Meier's everything after the fact is so irrelevant it's ridiculous.

His. Head. Was. Hit. Directly. End of (frank)ing story right there.

Ok, I'm out if it's going to devolve into name calling. The Officials that were on the ice saw it the same way I did. Nobody wants to see guys get hurt. But it's also a high speed contact sport with hitting.

It was an ugly, predatory hit meant to injure someone who was in a vulnerable position. When you have a height advantage and when the player has his head down (not smart) the head is going to be part of the impact whether it’s primary or not. I couldn’t say if it’s illegal or not but (frank) Trouba
