To be honest, I only really felt like it had been 6-7 years, basically since MMNT were on the team. It was easy to forget that there were 12-13 years of futility before that because a lot of those years they weren't failing in Game 7's. They were just abysmal.
This was the first series win for the Leafs since I have been on Hockeybuzz. Without looking it up, I would never have guessed that. - Aetherial
My reaction was more subdued than I expected ...it was a moment of pure joy followed by a massive release followed by a long satisfying sleep.

yup, division winner with the most points - TheMussel
Division winners are 25-28 in ascending order of fewest points as I understood it. I learned this two days ago! I had originally thought it was sorted by round (round one losers were 17 - 24; Round two were 25-28, etc.), but that was wrong.
The 29-30 spot are the conference finalists that lose and the 31-32 spots are the cup finalists, with the cup winner getting 32.
That leaves 17-24 as everyone else who loses in the first two rounds.
It's pretty obvious that the NHL revised these rules about a decade ago in preparation to screw the Leafs this year out of 4 spots in the draft. That Bettman must be into needlepoint because he's a crafty wiener. |

general question regarding the draft order - specifically the Leafs being in possession of the Bruins 1st rounder this year.
with the Bruins eliminated - where does that pick now fall? - BorjeFan4Ever

The Blues used to be my primary team. (*cringe*)
I remember watching the division final series between the Blues and Leafs in 92-93. I was pulling for Brett Hull, Cujo, and the Blues. My friend (who turned me on to hockey) was a diehard Leafs guy. You guys know what happened. Doug Gilmour's dramatic double-OT goal crushed the Blues and my spirits. My friend was rubbing it in after that until LA avenged my Blues in the next series.
Flash forward 30 (frank)ing years and I am on the receiving end of another crushing Leafs OT goal, this time by Tavares.
Although, I honestly expected this last goal. The Bolts limped into the playoffs and had no chance against a stacked and determined Leafs squad. It wasn't as crushing as the Gilmour goal.

I heard 28th - Fakepartofme
thanks - I assuming it can't drop further because of them losing in round 1.
Dubas made such as good deal (in my opinion) with the trade of Sandin. The aquisition of McCabe, another year (next year) of Gio means there's no real spot for Sandin. From my perspective the idea of moving him and getting serious draft capital and a player for a guy who simply wasn't going to get a real opportunity in Toronto was great.
It was the first tangible sign that Dubas actually could/would trade one of his younger drafted pieces without becoming too attached.

How did you feel in the last game of that series - when Wendel nearly took Cujo's head off? Without Cujo - the Blues don't win a game in that series.

Who is Tyson Nash? - AdamFrench
former fringe NHLer... who was a throw-in or a "future consideration" in a deal involving the Leafs. I think he did/does some broadcasting or commentary for the Coyotes/Arizona StadiumFree HockeyTeam.
He knows full well that trolling Leafs fans and the team is the quickest way to get some undeserved attention... ignore.
think of Avery-ligtht in terms of attitude by much much worse player.

It was so long ago that most of those braincells are dead. What I recall of that series was the Leafs basically dominated and Cujo stood on his head again and again. I remember it was the first NHL playoffs I had watched properly. Very first game was nail-biting. I was hopeful that Hull could deliver the dagger and Gilmour finally ended it. When the Blues lost that first game, it put doubts in my head about the series. Jeff Brown (I had to look it up) returned the favor in the next game, but we all know how that series ended up.
After the Lightning joined the league, I still followed the Leafs and Blues. Now I don't follow the Blues much any more. Tavares just ended my Lightning this year, so here we are.
Sidenote : I don't remember Clark's hit, but I do remember loving Clark for the half a season he played in Tampa. Tucker too, Thanks for Brian Bradley, BTW.

Tampa had a pretty good chance man. It took some last minute goals and bounces going to Leafs' way for a change. I think if the two teams played 100 games it would be 50-50.

Tampa is Pittsburgh now, but with a better GM and coach. I'm at peace with that.
Stamkos and Hedman will really start to show their decline soon, both have been pretty banged up over the years and aren't getting any younger. Kuch still has some time left to terrorize, but Vasi is schizo. Which Vasi will show up next playoffs? Sergachev is a legit #1 on many teams, but taking Hedman's place will be a tall order (pun intended). Depth behind Sergachev is really thin. The bottom six is getting worse every year. Killorn is about to walk. I'm not optimistic. Bolts had an epic run, I was happy to be Bolts fan during this roll, but all good rolls come to an end. The torch has been passed to the Leafs.
