flyers a lot of times got guys on the way down instead on the way up.
- hello it's me 2050

There is a reason for that, they despise youth-- always have, and despite this past year, they always will. They will take the first chance they get to get off of the rebuild bus. They will tell us they are doing it to get Couturier (who has an untradable contract) a Cup

I would have asked that too. Disc fusion restricts range of motion. Not hockey, but Don Mattingly had the fusion surgery lower down his back and it basically wrecked his career. He could not generate the torque anymore. Not that the replacement was available then.

I would at least be curious. Especially since as far as I know it is a surgery that needs to be revisited over a period of time. From what I read that was part of the reason why Eichel didnt want the fusion surgery and fought so hard against it.

Maybe it was in a different part of the neck for Atkinson than Eichel and Farabee.

They had no shot in 97. That team was on a mission and they bent the Flyers over a barrel. Raw dogged in game 3.

The goalie situation was not good in 97.

I don’t think that has anything to do with care level.

that wasa good trade. He was a legit top 4 dman. The mistake was letting him go for both hatcher and rahtje

The Flyers had a dominant 1st line. Brind'Amour for the second line a dominant checking line. Bowman and company formed the game plan that negated the Flyers strengths and emphasize theirs. Instead of trying to get into physical battles with LOD down low, they simply schemed to keep the puck away from them. Fronted them down low instead of battling for position.
- MJL

IIRC the entire leadup to the series the media were debating if Fetisov/Konstantinov were up to stopping the LOD. Then the puck dropped and it was Nik and Larry out against them almost every shift. Scottie earned his Pizza Pizza bucks in that series.

that isnt 100% true at all. Flyers have played many a youth over the years in question. Also a diff time with no cap. Clarke had no issue keeping young high drafted players on the roster.

Exactly. If the Flyers had had Vernon and the Wings had had Hextall/Snow, the Flyers would have won the series. If the Flyers had even OK goaltending, they may not have won, but it wouldn't have been a sweep. The combination of Vernon standing on his head, he won the Conn Smythe that year, and Hextall/Snow letting in softies was the key difference.

It's scary to be honest. I really don't feel good about how this PoHOs role is panning out. Briere, if indeed will be the GM of this team, he is going to need help and I don't see it looking like he will get it. Flyers look to be putting diversity and inclusion ahead of hiring the best person or people for the role(s).

To me it was the most significant difference in the series. Hextall/Snow combined for a .860 save% while Vernon had a .944 save % in the finals. And you can't say it was the difference in shots, Detroit had 115 while the Flyers had 108 shots. Vernon only gave up 6 goals in the entire series, while the Flyers gave up 16 goals!

people have different physical responses to emotional events. does not mean they do not have the same care level in the slightest.

care to give a summary please.
- hello it's me 2050

1. There may be several roles being created, not just one President of Hockey Ops Roles.
2. Looks like Tammy Granado will be in one of those roles, or at least be a finalist for one the roles.
3. Valerie Camillo really pushing for more women in hockey roles, especially exec roles
4. Those in the discussion felt Briere should be the PoHO and was being groomed for that role but that Briere himself wants to get his hands dirty and be the GM.
5. Panel not convinced about Frost and feel he should get a 1 year deal
6. Hart wants to win and there is some concern he may not want to sign an extension here if the team is wollowing in mediocrity by the time his contract is up.

Red Wings definitely had the better goaltending but shot and scoring chance quality also matters.

And you can't make adjustments when you have no depth. The only players to score for the Flyers in that series were Lindros, LeClair and Brindy. Meanwhile Detroit had 8 different players score a goal and 5 multi-goal scorers in the series.

Yes, I was trying to find a stat on HDCA for that series but could not find it. Shots were pretty close.

thanks. wallowing in mediocrity lol....they are losers' mediocre would be a blessing.

Would have liked to see a Briere and Darche combo. The fact the flyers will not even be interviewing any potential GM candidates is very alarming and not shocking in the least.
