Scenario's
https://www.sportsnet.ca/...s-for-the-2023-nhl-draft/
Mock ups from this guys list.
Option 1: Canucks stay at 11 and pick Axel Sandin Pellikka
Option 2: Trade down to 17 with Detroit with Canucks 2nd (43). C Nate Danielson or C Brayden Yager and 2nd round options C Danny Nelson, C Anton Wahlberg, RHD Maxim Strbak
Option 3: Trade down to 19 with Chicago with Chicago 2nd (35) W Wood or RHD Wallinder and LHD Etienne Morin, C Noah Dower Nilsson, C Mathieu Cataford.
Option 4: Trade down to 25 with Stl with Dallas 1st (30) C Calum Ritchie or W Kasper Hulttunen and W Nick Lardis or C Gracyn Sawchyn
Picked these 3 trade downs because those teams have picks that would equal near same value as Van's 11th. - manvanfan
Why do any of these teams want to trade up? |

myers and 11 for 17 and a pick or prospect kinda deal would be a 10/10 move. |

I did only because I wanted to check out the shiny new toys. They did pretty well after the TDL. 14-5-2 <- that's definitely going to translate into next season this time. - manvanfan
That's what they said about Boudreau as well. |

Getting a #1 D doesn't make Hughes somehow worse
The conversation is about talent level, not where you play on a team. OEL is not a #3 defender because he plays 3rd most minutes, he was a #7/8 D last year.
If Hughes is a #2 D, Hronek is a #3. The question is in this draft, where would you draft a player with the same talent level as Hronek.
The 2015 draft class some have compared the forward groups together.
in points order of that class for this exercise we will call these the top 20 best forwards from that 2015 draft.
How many of these forwards would you take ahead of "Hronek" (meaning a #3 defender)?
McDavid
Marner
Rantanen
Aho
Eichel
Connor
Barzal
Konecny
Meier
Boeser
Hintz
Zacha
D. Strome
Kaprizov
Beauvillier
Debrusk
Eriksson Ek
Garland
Roslovic
Cirelli - manvanfan
But he is a number 1 D. So it's a bit of a moot point. |

Detroit has a lot of depth pieces and need more top end stuff.
Chicago, his name is Connor Bedard.
Stl is in win now mode and isn't looking for a bunch of longer term pieces. 11th should make an impact much faster than 25 and 30. |

Chicago wants to trade up because they are getting Bedard?! How does that make sense?! |

The plan is to surround one of the next best talents in the game with a bunch of middle 6 players?
The process is going to be sped up a little and with 4 second round picks. Blackhawks have picked 27 times in the past 3 drafts and have 11 more picks in this draft. It would be about trying to add more quality and less quantity now.
Bedard is coming now, and the team will want to add more young talent sooner rather than later. That's normally higher up in the draft.

So a draft pick you claim has very similar value, a rebuilding (meaning multiple drafts, not just this one) team is trading up for... ya that seems very likely. Seems like we need to keep building around what we have just as much. |

I don't understand how you think it would be better for Bedard to play with middle 6 talent instead of top 6 talent? |

This is perfect example of the need to be able to put certain prospects in the AHL, Bedard would probably just dominate the CHL another year, but physically he is probably better served with development and strength training time before he gets to the NHL |

11 isnt 6.
They have several picks next year to build around Bedard with, as they are a rebuilding team and will suck again next year.
I think if they trade up its a little higher than 11. (Such as the actual number 6!)
Do you understand now? Rebuilding isnt all in one draft, they will have a top5 pick next year. |

If I was Chicago I would seriously take the PR hit, and put Bedard in a reverse Mattews situation, send him to top tier Euro team, with less games, more practice time and time for the Gym, all the while playing in a pro men's league. |

27 picks in the last 3 years? wtf do you think that is re-tooling? They have been rebuilding for years.
Again wtf are you talking about 11 isn't 6th? 6th what? The Canucks don't own 6th. Where did 6th even come into play here? Who the (frank) mentioned 6th?
Do you understand that better players are found higher up in the draft and not later. It's much harder to find a top 6 talented player at 19th than 11th.

Most likely, Toronto sent Marner back and grabbed Matthews the next season. Then Toronto made the playoffs and lost in the first round for multiple years after that. 6 to be exact. |

Good to see the dysfunction has returned to Leaf land.
“Friedman on 32TP: "I heard Toronto's exit interviews were pretty tough, I heard the Toronto players were pretty blunt about what they thought was said and that's something still to work on...he thinks some of the players were really blunt about why it didn't work".” |
