Biden is not clueless He is a puppet to a very large extent so if you think Jones will be a puppet, bad news again

Wrong. Clarke is still an executive with the team.

Does anybody even know what the President of Hockey Operations job description is for the Flyers? If not, how does anyone know if this is good or bad?

Quick update. Joe, the premise is not that they are making everyday decisions. The premise is that they are a huge influence on the philosophy of how the team will operate. Why is this so difficult for some to understand? That is all.

I think you might be saying something important as it relates to philosophy and expectations.

Some teams just blow it up and rebuild. They distance themselves from the old influences of past success. They put an entire new face on the franchise based on the new kids that take to the ice.

On the Hockey Night in Canada broadcast the other night they were talking about Fred Shero and Flyer playoff toughness. Ghosts might be fun to talk about. But, you are right, the corporate memory conveys a false expectation of what it means to be successful in today's NHL.

Flyers head scout is Dave Brown that’s not exactly working out
Holmgren, Barber, Clarke still around

Briere and Jones now

Loyalty is a lovely thing but the ex-player route rarely works out

From a PR stand point Jones probably makes sense given his years in sportscasting. I doubt his input will have an influence on Briere's decisions. That being said, it can't be worst than the '' win now'' moves of his predecessor.

Based on what exactly?

More nonsense you’ve put in you’re own head 😂

It’s a premise devoid of factual information

One of the top tier announcers and clearly sees the game the right way.

Great hire, if true.

For what reasons is it a great hire?
- MJL

I wouldn't call it stellar either. But it is light years better than hiring Ed Olczyk. And I'm willing to go out on a limb and call it a good hire with a caveat.

It seems to me that if the list was just down to Eddio O, then the other candidates must have passed. I doubt they were screened. That means interest wasn't high. And instead of giving it to a retread like Doug Wilson (that would have been a disaster) or a guy who was just looking for an exec job but doesn't really care about this team (Eddie O), they gave it to somebody who wanted it. Based on that, I'm all in. And he knows what he's getting into. No surprises.
That leads us to the Caveat. He doesn't have exec experience. Means he will have to learn on the job. To that end, so will Danny B. But - both of them want it, and that makes all the difference. That is huge when you think about Fletcher. He was just a guy in a job. Yeah, a nice guy. But a nice guy without a plan. He got run over by the other GMs. I don't see that happening now. Jones knows the value of the players throughout the league. And they'll have a plan. Just a matter of whether they can execute it. Time will tell.

I actually liked Jones on the intermission analysis. He's never had a President executive position so I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss him. Not sure what Comcast wants done either. If Comcast is only going to hire yes men sycophants, then it is hopeless regardless. I expected Waddell to suck at his GM and President of Hockey Operations, and he's been great so far.
