I went to the one 10 years ago at Yankee Stadium. The game itself sucked like most do when played outside but the tailgate and everything leading up to the game was great. I'll definitely be going again

I was there too, I had a blast but I have no interest in doing that again

This they announce, yet we haven't heard from our owners or gm.

I do not have Newsday, but Neil Best wrote an article that it's time for Malkin to tell us what he is thinking. Reports are Lou is coming back but nothing official.

Staple's right about the team going to back-to-back conference finals being almost entirely Snow's. I've always said he doesn't get any credit when he most certainly deserves some.

The thing is, that very same team never gets anywhere near the conference finals if Snow remained at the helm. It took someone who knew what the heck he was doing to translate some nice pieces into actual success.

If he is that good at finding talent in the draft...Make him the head of scouting and let him run the draft.

He deserves a little more credit than he got from Isles fans, but he still has a somewhat-suspect draft history. Yes, he undoubtedly unearthed a few later-round gems. No argument there and full credit to him for doing it. But he also whiffed on some real high picks that could have arguably been huge additions to the team over the years.

Strome/Reinhart/Dal Colle were massive misses with much better players drafted right behind them in the draft. I won't kill him for Niederreiter because that year's draft was largely crap after him.

Yep, for a guy who may have blown every top-five pick, he had quite a lot of hits otherwise, which is...a little weird

He was probably best at those later round gems (whether or not it was just luck...), but even some of the first rounders outside the top-five turned out pretty good. Maybe not Ho-Sang and Bellows...but Pulock, Nelson, and Barzal were really nice hits, and even Beauvillier wasn't bad for 28.

He certainly wasn't entirely inept, but despite finding a couple of later round steals he did virtually nothing else competently. His coaching carousel of friends was atrocious. He failed at bringing in virtually any actual help from the outside. He made some good trades, can't take that away from him either. But he also made some bad ones.

Ultimately, his tenure here was a circus from the get-go and one that there was a lot more bad than good. It wasn't all bad, but I'm beyond glad it's over.

100%. Circus is probably the best way to describe it. Everything from the way he was hired to his final press conference was just one big punchline. I'd say there were certainly other GMs that did worse, and even ones that outright ran their franchises into the ground, while Snow was GM of the Isles, but even they somehow managed to be less of a laughingstock around the league.

I always thought the terrible coach selection was because Snow insisted on being the smartest guy in the room. But I wonder if it might have been that, given Snow and the Isles' reputation, competent coaches would just give him the Nabokov treatment when he called them on the phone.

I'm not giving him credit for Barzal. That pick was just about as easy as the Tavares pick.

Have to give him credit for the trade that got him the pick to get Barzal.

Boston had three chances in a row to make that easy pick and didn't!

And Edmonton traded the pick away right there at the draft for Griffin Reinhart.

It was colder than a well diggers azz that night. My son was skating on that kid rink in between periods. He had a blast. Me my nuts were frozen to the chair.

He still did that though. Plenty of other GM's could have traded with Edmonton but didn't. This wasn't the "consensus #1 overall pick" that GM's don't get any credit for. I hate the guy but it was a great trade that not only landed Barzal, but also picked up some of the assets that were used to move up to take Beauvillier.

No, I'm agreeing with you...my point, perhaps poorly made, was that picking Barzal wasn't necessarily such a slam-dunk call, as Boston didn't make it with three chances, and Edmonton didn't pick him when it had the chance, choosing instead to trade the pick. I definitely consider that a highlight for Snow, and if I remember right, it was a nice recovery from a big mistake as the Isles didn't have a first-round pick that year due to the Vanek fiasco. To go in with no first round pick and come out with Barzal and Beau while only giving up Griffin Reinhart is, well, pretty damn good.

Happy to see it wasn't Isles fans this time foolishly throwing garbage on the ice

I feel bad for, and sympathize with, normal Stars' fans who are going to have to suffer through lectures about class.

I think I actually meant to respond to Pete

Yeah, plenty of things during Snow's time that are fair game for lots of criticism, but that definitely wasn't one of them.

And yeah, that was the draft they didn't have their first round pick after trading for Vanek.

Wow, the Hextall stuff I’m reading on Twitter is quite damning and actually making me like Crosby a bit. Absolute poop attitude from Hextall.

Yup, that’s a prime example of what I was reading. You can’t even shoot the guy a txt that he’s traded? And, you know these guys are on a road trip with their fathers. What a piece of poop move by Hextall. The Malkin stuff was an eye opener too.

Lol, never heard of it but if a bunch of rich professional athletes are eating there, I’d assume it’s great.

They have the largest wine collection in North America (and I believe it's the second largest in the world). Something in the neighborhood of 750,000 bottles. I was there last April. They used to do tours of the wine cellar but apparently they moved it off-site because the collection was too big.

Probably pretty high on both fronts.

Place is awesome and not necessarily prohibitively expensive either. The cost of the steaks are pretty much on par with what you'd expect to pay at a higher end steakhouse but every steak came with a loaded baked potato, salad, and french onion soup. If you have dessert or drinks after dinner they actually move you from your table to a specific dessert room upstairs where all the tables are semi-enclosed kind booths that are round like half a wine barrel (see below).

I think it's been around since the 50's and I would give it a big-time recommendation. It's real old-timey, so anyone that wants the douchebag "Salt Bae tomahawk ribeye encrusted in gold leaf and cut by some sort of sword" experience....then it's probably not for them
